That's very interesting, because it suggests that much theft is driven by actual poverty and need, rather than by whim or thrill-seeking. These are neither recreational drugs nor luxury items, they're necessities of life (yep, even Preparation H!) that people are (I infer) stealing because they can't afford to buy them. Stealing is wrong, but so is organizing a society in such a way that people feel they have no choice. Let's get those bibles out and look at all the references to the widows and the fatherless...

Well, that's one use for it, but it's a general painkiller, yes?

That's definitely a kind way to look at it. I figured #9 is there because it might be embarassing to purchase.

The heading on Amelia's message was "organized retail theft". That leads me to believe that it's not needy people stealing off the shelves, but organized crime doing the stealing. For cheap resale, maybe?

Nothing mysterious about Number 9. The same ingredient that reduces the swelling of hemorrhoids also reduces the puffiness beneath the eyes. It is a favorite cosmetic item of youmg women. Many drugstores in our area now keep it locked in a glass case with other items that have become popular to steal. Pain killers, sleep aids, cough syrup, etc. These are items that are now either behind the counter or under lock and key in many area's here.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

During the Depression, the crime rate actually went down. Theft is not related need in countries such as the U.S.

Ever hear of Winona Ryder? Shoplifting in general is more common in affluent areas.

Hmmmmm... I guess the rich and the famous do make the news... However the countless thousands who don't make the news, now there's a story....

Yeah, well here's the story.

Quote:

Psychological Studies on Shoplifting and Kleptomania

Shoplifting is clearly a psychological issue for many people. Shoplifting for
most individuals
is
rarely about greed or poverty.
It’s about people struggling with their own personal conflicts and needs. (emphasis supplied)
