joeb Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 A couple of weeks ago the mayor and city council for the closest town to where I live decided to go extremely progressive and voted to declare the entire town a "gun-free" environment at a city council meeting. Needless to say the meeting was packed with people and the city council met with some rather heated opposition by the vast majority of the citizens at the meeting before the vote was taken. After they voted for this stupidity things got very very heated. The mayor and the city council members who voted for this came close to having to meet with the friendly local ER doctor. There were quite a few law enforcement people at the meeting and they all voiced their opposition to this. One city policeman, the one assigned to keep_the_peace/protect_council_members at city council meetings, told the assembled citizens after the vote that if the city government attempted to enforce this abridgment of the 2nd amendment he would stand beside them and help them keep their firearms. Needless to say, the current mayor and all city council members up for election this year will be replaced. They won't stand a chance at being re-elected. Now for the story of the second set of politicians. They are from a town only 7 miles north of the first town. They also had a meeting on gun control and the meeting was once again packed. However, this group of politicians declared that in their town February 18th from now on is the 2nd Amendment appreciation Day. They recognized in their public statement that our Constitution is under attack as never before and that the 2nd Amendment is the foundation for keeping all the rest of our rights. Every year from now there will be an town-sponsored event celebrating the 2nd Amendment. This was met by a lot of applause and good will from their constituents and law enforcement officials, and for all intents and purposes guaranteed their re-election for several coming election cycles. Ted Oplinger Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Interesting story. Sad how the mayor and council of the first city, upon seeing the overwhelming opposition to their proposal, went ahead and enacted it anyway. I can see that mayor/council getting completely replaced...unless they live in an area that votes strictly party line. Then, those politicians will have a free ride and no consequences until the mess gets too unbearable. Blessings, Quote "As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17 "The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J.
