Johann Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Yours is an excellent reminder for me of a great book I received as a Christmas present. It is The Lost Meaning of the Seventh Day by Sigve K Tonstad published by the Andrews University Press 2009. What I have read thus far indicates that Edwin Reynolds (Southern Adventist University) is right when he says about this book: "It will transform the thinking on a matter of immense biblical significance." Sigve teaches both religion and medicine at Loma Linda. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted February 18, 2013 Administrators Posted February 18, 2013 Thank you for that recommendation, Johann! It is the second recommendation I have seen in the last few days. I grabbed one from our shelf. :) Johann 1 Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Johann Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Just like Ellen White collected choice saying of other Christian writers in some of her books to emphasize our understanding of Scripture, so Sigve has selected quotations by others who enhance our understanding of the Sabbath. Take this one from Karl Barth: "the reason why He refrains from from further activity on the seventh day is that He has found the object of His love and has no need for any further works." Page 34. Then Sigve adds that "God ceases from working in order to enjoy the company of the person God has created, suggesting that the seventh day speaks as much about the value of the human beings to God as of God's valuation of human life." Page 35 In which way does that help us keeping that day holy, and enjoy every moment of it? Quote
