Griping or Scolding SDA pastor

Any suggestions or input on how to deal with a pastor who gripes during the sermon?

One who finds fault with the denomination?

One who seems disappointed with the lack of enthusiasm, passion or activity of his sheeple??

Provide for him a newspaper clipping of the "help wanted" section of the classified news print where he can start selling vacuum cleaners door to door. Everyone needs to eat.

Might it be that the pastor is being misread? It may be that he is sighing and crying for the ‘sins’

Everyone is disappointed with sheeple, ‘ceptin’, mebbe, other sheeple. I suppose one cannot expect that a pastor should not harbor the same disappointment with sheeple. Besides,

don’t certain sheeple avowedly attribute to themselves Laodiceanism? Mebbe, the pastor has gout and can only kick fundament by a seeming expression of disappointment :-o

Now, dealing with said pastor… give him a high-five; a coupla Hallelujahs, a shout, and an Amen; a written commendation of appreciation to the Conference signed by his entire congregation; get him a raise in salary and an increase in perks; invite him and his family home for lunch;

--and send him to the nation’s most eminent specialist in the treatment of gout...

for starters.

I think it's extremely clear why Stan replied to a question with another question: the two cases are parallel in many ways. If you know how to deal with a gripey parishioner you'll know something about how to deal with a gripey pastor. And in particular, the kinds of things JimBob said the pastor was complaining about are precisely the kinds of things JimBob complains about. So whatever works for dealing with JimBob should work for dealing with the pastor, and vice versa. Apologies to Stan for explaining explicitly (my best, but fallible, interpretation of) what he said so subtly and humorously.

I do realize that you are talking about me.

A forum such as this, is to reflect the thought of the members, when the owner becomes vocal on issues it is very lop-sided, and heavy handed.

I have never claimed that I am to be the internet sole defender of Adventist truth and thought, even attempting to do so would kill the overall community. Should you doubt that take a look at some of the forums that the admin try's to do that, be they Adventist or others.

Just as in Church people come for all kinds of reasons, some for theology others for fellowship.

That was part of the initial strategy that I had, some things were wrong, some things were right, online forums are still a new and unfolding experiment in community. This will continue to unfold as time goes on.

FWIW Back in the beginning, I did post my thoughts using my middle name. Just to get some topics started etc etc. I would sign off on my real name sometimes in error, so I quite doing that. <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

People must be able to support their position on subjects, with out the admin booting people off because they try and burn a strange fire.

One exception is bullies, as far as I am concerned they can go play elsewhere. Be it here, a school classroom, or Church. There have only been 3-4 of those, but here were about that many went away on their own steam.

This thread is related to that topic....an experience where another pastor is being a bully on the sheeple.

Ya know how that happens ???

By laying guilt trips without preaching a remedy...

As most realize...Pastors have , for the most part,..one way/ unidirectional lectures...unlike in a sabbath school where the teaching can't go unguarded or challenged.

How many sheeple want to take on the pastor after the worship service ...when it is time to take the wife and or kids home to eat? Or to try to make a micro rebuttal at the door in line where the sheeple are lined up to shake his hand after the chew out lecture..???

Time for a wake up call/reality check for institutional minded, company pawns,CLERGY apologists.

But Stan I must always agree when a person is right as in the case with your above words. What else can a person do & be honest with themselves? And yes, I am thankful you are not like Eugene/Ted/Tom/Dick/Harry. Even in a litter of pups, each one has their own special way about themselves. I was reminded of this after viewing a mother & her 13 pups just now. My male guard dog made a house call a few months ago while I was at my keyboard trying to figure out a way to answer a forum member that had lost a piece of their twiddle-wink game.

IMO..yes, because the comment is a reaction to a digression/diversion.

If the post of mine was an isolated case... that is one matter...but even if it is an isolated case...there is a difference between a trained professional who has an audience , influence and manages a church and some loose canon, psycho, who bad mouths inept, disenchanted clergy.

Yes, Bravus..I agree.....I would be surprised if any of the regulars here didn't know exactly what Stan meant by the reply. That is why I put the smile icon after my question.

Most , if not all of the regulars know that Stan is a positive, upbeat , optimistic person..and when he sees my rants....he wants to make them boomerangs.
