JimTN Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 I'm hoping to run into Harry during the first year or so of the Millennium in heaven (assuming I get there) while my memory of him would be relatively fresh -- if I had to wait 1,000+ years until the redeemed get to the New Earth, I think that my memory of Harry's art might be a bit "faded" by then... after seeing 1,000+ years of God's glorious creation, I might start thinking "so what" about Harry's art... JimTN Posted February 1, 2014 Author Posted February 1, 2014 UPDATE: An SDA lady in Oregon by the name of Victoria Wilson wrote a very nice article on Harry Anderson's Car Calendar Art in the new Winter 2014 issue of THE HOOD RELEASE Classic Car Club of American magazine --they reprinted 10 of Harry's car paintings for the cover & article -- you can see some of the images on the "Calendar" page of my www.HarryAndersonArt.com webpage! JimTN Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 LATEST NEWS: Back in 1946 Dr. Elvin Gibson was a young boy and lived in D.C. and he and some other children posed for Harry Anderson's snow sled illustration that was printed the following year in Ladies Home Journal magazine -- Dr. Gibson is now deceased, and I wondered if I could find any of his surviving family... my search led me to Dr. Gibson's daughter, Audrey Gibson who is married to ex-president Robert Folkenberg's son, Bob Jr.! They are working in the Hong Kong mission field, and just today I got a reply from Audrey about this 1946 Harry Anderson painting and she posted it on her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/audreyannfolkenberg Quote
LifeHiscost Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I'm interested in knowing what a painting promoting Mormonism might be? It seems to me, although I haven't looked at all the religious paintings yet, the paintings done for the Adventist church were all about Jesus and His experience with people. God/Jesus saves! JimTN Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 BIG NEWS: I just received a scan of a letter that Harry Anderson wrote in 1926 when he was 19 years old and attending college! Harry wrote it to his cousin Ed Holt (now deceased), and in the letter Harry did several sketches -- and Harry wrote about how he was taking an OIL PAINTING CLASS... "I'm also taking art again this semester. It's a course in oil painting. Real interesting of course. All my studies are more or less a bore to me except the latter. I've always got my mind on it. So much for school..." and then he went on to write about other things. I've posted an "edited" version of this 3-page letter on my "About Harry" page of my website, and if anyone would like to see the entire letter, just contact me... www.HarryAndersonArt.com Quote
JimTN Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 Mark Ford was one of the art directors at the R&H whom I met and worked for back in the early 1990's, and last week I tracked him down and told him to take a look at my *awesome* Harry Anderson webpage -- here's what Mark wrote after seeing it: >> "Yes, I was very impressed with his productivity. The guy was remarkable. His brushwork added a dimension of life to every detail. Nowadays the financial arrangements between artist and publisher are very different from those early days. He will have stars in his crown, that’s for sure." - Mark Ford << Amen to that! Quote
JimTN Posted July 5, 2014 Author Posted July 5, 2014 This week I located the 1978 & 1980 LDS Study Guide books that had Harry's art on the covers, and LOTS of b&w illustrations inside (taken from Harry's various LDS paintings, and even 1 from an SDA-owned painting)... If anyone is interested in seeing these 2 books, I posted pics of them on the "RELIGION 2" page of my website! www.HarryAndersonArt.com Quote

JimTN Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 A rather special find showed up this past week, and I've added it to my Harry Anderson webpage -- around 20 years ago an artist friend of mine made some b&w xeroxes from his collection of Harry Anderson commercial art and sent them to me... but he neglected to let me know where they were published... and this past week I *finally* located the final one I needed to find! It was was published in the November 1956 issue of Ladies Home Journal -- and I've posted it on the top of the LHJ page on my www.HarryAndersonArt.com webpage! (It's was entitled "Hit and Run" showing a mother in panic as her teenage son hit someone while driving...) Wow, it took me over 15-20 years to finally see it in full color! BTW, I'd like to thank everyone for making this thread such a well-read thread with over 6480 hits on this forum -- that means that LOTS of people have viewed my Harry Anderson webpage, and that's all I ever wanted! To share his rarer unseen art with everyone! Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 2, 2014 Members Posted August 2, 2014 that's cool! (but are you certain about the date and publication? "Hit and Run" was a story by mystery writer John D MacDonald, and was first published in Good Housekeeping in August 1952, and a revised version was published in the Saturday Evening Post on September 16, 1961. If you've got the actual LHJ showing the story, you might send the info to the John D MacDonald website at http://jdmhomepage.org/bibliography.html so they can update the bibliography...) JimTN Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 The story title "Hit and Run" is a pretty generic title, I'm sure it's been used many times by different writers over the years -- and as you can see on my website where I posted the full image of the 1956 LHJ story as illustrated by Harry, that's the correct title -- the John D. MacDonald story is just another story using the same title... Quote
