bonnie Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Doctor Threatens To Call Cops On Pregnant Woman If She Doesn’t Have Emergency C-Section March 7, 2013 12:30 PM TAMPA (CBS Tampa) — A Florida doctor told a pregnant patient that he would call the cops on her if she didn’t have an emergency caesarean section because the baby was a week past his due date. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Dr. Jerry Yankowitz, chairman of the obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Southern Florida, sent the threatening email to 35-year-old Lisa Epsteen. “I feel abandoned. There has to be a level of trust between provider and patient, and that has been betrayed,” Epsteen told the Times. “It’s circumstances like this that make women feel like they have no options but to birth their babies on their own — and put themselves in more dangerous circumstances — because they feel bullied.” The email stated: “I am deeply concerned that you are contributing to a very high probability that your fetus will die or your child will incur brain damage if born alive. At this time, you must come in for delivery. I would hate to move to the most extreme option, which is having law enforcement pick you up at your home and bring you in, but you are leaving the providers of USF/TGH no choice.” Epsteen reached out to the National Advocates for Pregnant Women after receiving the email. The group sent a letter to the hospital questioning their medical ethics. “Any attempt to force her to undergo the surgery by means of arrest and detention in the hospital is without legal justification and in defiance of a clear medical consensus that such threats and actions undermine maternal, fetal, and child health,” Lynn Paltrow, executive director of NAPW, said in a statement on the group’s website. Doctors did, though, believe the lives of Epsteen and her baby were in danger. Epsteen had developed gestational diabetes and an ultrasound Tuesday showed the baby in distress. That’s when doctors told her to immediately go to Tampa General Hospital and have a C-section. She didn’t want to give birth that day because her husband was at work while she had the family’s only car and also she didn’t have anyone to watch her 2-year-old son. “In Dr. Yankowitz’s defense, and all of the other physicians there, I don’t think they are trying to cover themselves. I think they really do have the best interests of my child and myself at heart,” Epsteen told the Times. “On the other hand, this is not the way to go about protecting my baby or me.” Dr. Yankowitz did send an apology to Epsteen. I don't think you'll ever be able to find a conservative to whom the entire incident isn't completely off the wall. Frankly I am more interested in a rational explanation from a liberal.Or someone that claims,"I don't believe in abortion for myself but I don't think I have the right to object to those that do" I believe abortion on demand is here to stay.I am not even referring to the abortion law itself. But where does the rights and wishes of the mother begin and stop? Why would anyone care if the child in question did die? Isn't that the mother's choice/right to decide that? Bloomberg wants abortion to be legal up to the 40th week.Viable babies are aborted and those to stubborn to die can be left without even the comfort care while they struggle to live and ultimately die.That isn't even an attempt to force the mother to give birth and care for her infant. Our president and many others voted against demanding comfort care at least, citing concerns over the mother's right.It would be far more humane to smother that stubborn little one struggling to live. I had a baby at a scant 28 weeks at a time when the viability was very questionable. He was a living,breathing little human being,yet by today's twisted logic I could have demanded he be allowed to die alone without me or anyone giving what I or most people would give to a valued dying pet. Mustn't interfere with the rights of the mother,yet here we have a Dr feeling like he has the right to over ride the mother's rights.How does this work? Abortions on demand,even that of a viable fetus(baby) are a mother's right.Mental and emotional health of the mother takes a high priority. Yet I know personally three young women that carried their dead babies for several weeks,Dr's refusing to intervene.Citing the more safe,natural delivery of that child.They had to wait till they went into labor on their own. As one that has gone thru 4 pregnancies I can't imagine what the knowledge that my baby was dead and I was being forced to carry him would do to my mental and emotional well being. I think there are liberals who think one does, but that's actually beside the point. All of this just goes to show, as far as I'm concerned, just how dehumanizing the devil's deceptions are.
