BobRyan Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Pope says jokingly to the group of Cardinals that elect the first Jesuit Pope in all of time "May God forgive you". http://www.iol.co.za/news/world/pope-francis-may-god-forgive-you-1.1486074#.UUUySHc2PxY (Apparently Jesuits take a vow not only of poverty - but of rejecting high church office, since their order is supposed to respond blindly to the orders of their superiors without thinking "as would a corpse". Jesuits in response to the news were shocked and were asking how the new Pope would fulfill that vow to blindly follow orders without thinking "like a corpse". Whose orders? Interesting thing to google - other than Ellen White what other sources report that one of the driving directives behind the Jesuit order has been "the end justifies the means"? in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Igakusei Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I find your "...without thinking" bit interesting. I don't know a lot about the Society of Jesus, but from what I do know they tend to seem fairly liberal. On the topic of Bible Scholarship, for instance, they generally have far more beliefs in common with someone like Bart Ehrman than they do your average Andrews Seminary grad. Their tendency to think for themselves somewhat regularly gets them in trouble with the Vatican. Don't bother quoting Ignatius, because a lot can change in 500 years and the Jesuits I know today really don't seem to fit your mold. Quote I believe in life before death
