Stan Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Am working on a story about Sikhs who have become adventist. Fascinating. What question would you like to ask these families? How much to do you know about this group of people? BobRyan Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 A good friend of mine at work is practicing Sikh, not a Christian. He has a relative in India that recently converted to Christianity (A charismatic form of Christianity) from the Sikh religion. One of the things that he considers amazing is that the Christian God would choose a personal relationship with each one of us. I spoke to an SDA pastor while in Hyderabad India about the process for reaching the Indian people that are not Muslim and the answer was that after the standard evangelistic series (which many will listen to) they do not normally join the church until they see real answer to prayer. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." fccool Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 That particular religion has always fascinated me mainly because of the extreme ways it goes to preserve life. I guess my question would be, after becoming Adventist do they retain that ideal of the sacredness of life, no matter which form it may come in? Anotherwords, do they still avoid killing incests and etc, even by accident.? Quote
Moderators lazarus Posted March 19, 2013 Moderators Posted March 19, 2013 Am working on a story about Sikhs who have become adventist. Fascinating. What question would you like to ask these families? How much to do you know about this group of people? I went to school with many Sikh's kids and I still have a couple of friends today that I'm still in contact with who are Sikhs. I would have a bunch of questions. In no particular order here: What was it about the Bible that led them to believe that it was the Word of God as opposed to the Sikh sacred texts. What is different and attractive about the God of the Bible What are the similarities between the Adventism and Sikhism? What can Adventists learn from Sikhs? I would be really interested to know how much of their Sikh customs and traditions that they plan to keep, that they see as compatible with their SDA faith, like uncut hair, their music and instruments, etc. (they may not have kept to the traditions of the 5 k's that includes uncut hair). What would be the best approach that an Adventist could take when seeking to minister to a seek family. Do they plan to keep Singh and Kaur in their names or change them? The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
