Sojourner Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Hello, I know that the Seventh Day Adventist Church are one of the Christian Denominations that are against eating Pork. My understanding of Scripture agrees with that decision. Many talk about Peter's vision and God saying take and eat, yet my understanding of that is that its about bringing Gentile believers into the church, not actually eating those things. Anyway I wanted to ask you your opinions on Isaiah 66:17 and if you think this verse is being spoken in a prophetic sense or not? The verse reads, "Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things--they will meet their end together with the one they follow," declares the LORD". Some questions that I also have concern the first sentance, what is meant by consecrating and purifying themselves and is that to do with Christians today? Secondly, "Following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs", Does this mean a false teacher within Christianity, or at the time a sect of Judaism? Thirdly, "Meeting their end with the one they follow" is this those following that false teacher and ending up the same? Quote
olger Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 "Sanctifying themselves" indicates an auto-developed artificial righteousness that stands in contrast to Proverbs 13:9 and Exodus 31:13. Giving the eschatological context of this passage, it speaks to our generation of the importance of using only those things that the Lord has blessed, and avoiding that which He has cursed. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
