After much nagging from his wife, Sam Goldstein decided to visit the audiologist.

“You are going to need hearing aids Mr. Goldstein,” said the nurse.

“How much are they?”

“Well they range in price from $10 to $2,000 a pair,” said the nurse.

“Okay, I’ll try the $10 pair,” Sam said.

The nurse placed the hearing aids into his ears and hung a red wire around his neck.

“Does this ugly red wire really have to be around my neck?” asked Sam.

“Why of course!” replied the nurse. “You think these $10 things in your ears do anything?! It’s the red wire around your neck – it makes people talk louder!”
