Man forgets $81K on train, 2 teens return fortune

Two Norwegian teens are being praised for their honesty after returning 467,200 kroner ($81,500) to a man who had accidentally left the cash on a train.

The Raw Story reports that the teens found the small fortune in a bag left on a seat in a train traveling between Oslo and a small town in the southeast section of Norway.

One of the teens, identified by local paper Vestby Avis as Bendik, told the paper: "When I opened the bag, the first thing I saw were these wads and wads of bills." Bendik added that his first thought was to notify the police.

Upon further examination of the bag, the teens noticed a passport belong to man in his 70s. Raw Story reports that the owner was expected to pick up the cash at a local police station. No word on whether the man was going to give the teens a reward.

This is just the latest incident in what feels like an epidemic of honesty. Earlier this week, a story surfaced about a Wal-Mart employee who returned an envelope with $20,000 inside. In February, a couple found a camera case with $11,000 near the Golden Gate Bridge. They tracked down the grateful owners.

And the goodness keeps on coming. Last year, a bus driver in Austria returned a bag with over $510,000 inside. A few months ago, a casino worker came across $10,000 in a restroom. She turned it right in. And in November, a taxi driver in Singapore found a jaw-dropping $900,000 in the back seat of his cab. He returned it.

God is still working in many peoples lives.

How do you forget thousands of dollars? I start to sweat if I misplace $5, in fact, I don't think I would even feel comfortable walking around with one thousand, much less tens of thousands.

I've never found any $ that could be returned. At a local garage a few years back, I mention to Frank the mechanic that I had found a couple dollars in change. "Oh, I throw that out for kids to find when they come in. Keeps them occupied while we are trying to figure out what's wrong with their parent's or grandparents' car or truck."

I tossed the change back into the gravel and then found some dimes and a couple quarters to add to the parking area.

It's so wonderful to hear stories of people caring for total strangers and their property. When I was teaching Sabbath School in a church where most of the members had been baptized in the last five years, the kids were as yet in an unconverted state, as far as I could tell -- primarily because every time a discussion would come up as to what to do with money, a wallet, some belonging that you found, they would quote the verse from 2 Simon that says, "Finders keepers, losers weepers." I was never able to convince them that was wrong.

Does it HAVE to be money? I almost forgot...

About a month ago, a hunting rifle with a nice scope and a full clip of ammo! I'm not a hunter, don't know much about guns, but I could tell this one was EXPENSIVE! Sabbath afternoon drive, pulled into a remote overlook off a seldom used gravel road. It was laying on the ground. I took it to my neighbor, he's a Sheriff, He was astonished I was turning it in, NOBODY does that. He called it into dispatch. Turns out it was the dispatchers nephew (small town). Young guy, heirloom from his Grandad. He set up next to the pickup after target practice and then drove off without it. Turns out it's a $1,000 plus rifle. Boy was he thankful. And my neighbors, who are Christians, were quite impressed with the whole thing. It never entered my mind for a second to keep it, I couldn't get it to the Sheriff fast enough. :)

I walked around with 10k in cash once. I was so nervous I think the bad guys could smell blood in the water a mile away. I couldn't get to the bank fart enough! I always wonder when I hear of such huge sums being lost...

Most of the time I never keep anything I find unless it comes to the point I can't find a taker. What I mean by that is, if I'm out walking and find a hub cab of a car, truck, etc., I will usually place it so others can see it from the cars as there driving by. After a few weeks if no one picks it up I might just throw it away, because most of the time when I take my walks I usually carry a garbage bag with me to pick up thrash. I once found a cell phone, took it home and figure out who owned it, and had them come over to pick it up. Obviously if I find a few bucks while out walking, and no one is around, I don't think you'll find an owner. Also if I'm buying something and the person gives me back to much, I go right back in and give it back. This one time it was like around $20, the person told me that at the end of the day they would have to pay it out of there own pockets, so needless to say they were very thankful and told me no one ever does that.
