How the world sees Adventists

I'm paraphrasing a tweet from Dwight Nelson in the title.

As they turn 150, Adventists still praying for the Apocalypse - by Daniel Burke - Washington Post http://bit.ly/YfrHSc

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs.

I don't believe that is how the world sees Adventists, I think that is ones mans opinion.

Seemed pretty accurate to me, it is and should be an embarrasement that we are still here. It is extremely clear and there is no question in my mind that the Lord was to return during the lifetime of Ellen White. As the angel told her directly that would happen. Just as it was clear the Children of Israel were supposed to cross over, but unbelief thwarted Gods plan. So it was with Adventists, around the late 1800's early 1900's when Ellen White recognized "we" had blown it. "We" would have to stay here much longer than planned. We turned back into the wilderness, where we have been ever since.

It seems that even those that he interviewed have never really read the Bible through!

Its not the article that shows what the world thinks of SDA, but the replies that followed. Did anyone read them? Its really sad that so many prefer the way the world is instead of actually reading the Bible and seeing what is gonna happen. I guaranty not one of those replying have ever read one chapter of the Bible.

I didn't read the replies, usually don't, most often to depressing and to many idiot opinions expressed. In general for ALL articles on the web, not just this one.

Personally, my ministry has changed from Jesus is coming soon to "your personal judgment time" could be over tonight, or very soon.

It wasn't the rain in Noahs time, it was the closing of the door of the Ark that was significant.

Excellent thought Club. I like that. Kind of like Easter, I usually don't say happy Easter, I say Happy Resurrection day.

i think we are slow to learn that there are consequences because the wisdom given in Sop just is not followed.

Every departure from what she has written regarding our relationship to God, our service to others, the thoughtful hour a day in devotions mediating on the final scenes of Christ's life, the health message, living Christ's love for our fellow man... i find myself.

it seems we have to read another self help book from the AbC to figure out again what that means... the light flickers for a while. We reach out to the waves of non-adventist books on energizing new spirituality and the new effective evangelism, and the latest innovation on increasing the number of converts.

we are not as a denomination consumed with a passion to bring Christ to the world. Life has us busy with multitudes of trials and tests, and struggles,. i think we are definitely in the wilderness growth time and God will bring us right up to the jordan again. will we have learned to simply trust and obey. Will we love God supremely and love our fellow man, and live only for the glory of God?

the last test when they came up on the jordan was sensuality, are we there with the internet access 24 hours a day yet?

when we are, watch out, the Spirit is moving.

Good point about that final test for the Children of the Covenant and their fall with the Midianitish women.

Everytime I see an ad on TV, magazine, internet of a scantilly clad woman it pops into my mind, "The Midianite women are sneaking into the camp, it's a trap..."

taking it one step further in a symbolic sense.

yes at that time and now there is a test on sensuality,

but today we do have another seduction to another woman, and that is the harlot of false religion.

the allurement of great wisdom, and peace, and oneness with God, His presence to bask in.... without a cross, without repentance, without the Sabbath, without God.

The final test will be the Sabbath vs the false Sabbath of the world. I can see how it will be very seductive and alluring with the power of seducing spirits of spiritualism.

We will only be able to stand if Jesus is our protection. Like the three worthies, they could stand in the fire because their God walked with them.

so i am thankful for every trial that brings me to need God and to know that indeed God is my strength and my only source of help. This is getting me ready.

Being in somewhat of a trial now makes me believe probably somewhat like the aftermath of Peter's statement, "Tho' all these others might leave you, Lord, not me". How many think when surrounded by comfort, will change their minds when their feet are held to the fire. Only by God's overruling providence do I have a shred of hope.

"And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJV

we will not be able to escape trials, Jesus said "in this world you will have troubles, but be of Good cheer have overcome the world"

I hope we all may be able to say with Job, "though he slay me yet will I praise him." so i think we need to learn how to praise God now, when life is unfolding without being as harsh as Job's life was.

Thank-you for sharing those powerful promises.
