I'm not so sure that in past that encrypted communications haven't been secure. I used to use PGP to encrypt all my email, and with the 2048 bit encryption being used it was pretty hard to break without my private key.

Now they want to be able to do all this in real time, and the only way to do that is have access to all encryption keys.

Most rational people understand where human beings are involved there will always be an abuse.

What is going on now is different in scope than what we have dealt with previously.

I think it gives some people comfort to yawn and say,"It has always been that way as a routine matter.

But at least for a bit now we have been spared "it is Bush's fault"

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

If you want to blame Bush that's your problem not anyone else's.

Excuse me,it was meant more as an "attitude" than an actual statement.

There was a time when something like this would have prompted as large outcry.

There was a loud outcry under Bush but most conservatives kept quiet. Why make a fuss now? Oh, wait, its a democrat whose doing it. So much for having principles.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

You must not have listened to the conservative voices to much during that time. Conservatives were just as upset. However, this does not fit the Left's image it crafts for Americans to think conservatives as being, so it got swept under the rug.

Trouble is, Laz - if it was SOOOOOOOO bad, then why did YOUR President renew the policies instead of killing them?

So much for liberal principles as well, Laz...

Come on Ted. They were not as upset. Really? I listened to talk radio a lot during that time. Your talk radio friends were all very supportive. They were cheering bush on. Limbaugh, for example, supported torture, remember club gitmo?

My president? You are an American citizen. He is the president of the United States. I certainly didn't like many of the things that Margret Thatcher did but she was still my Prime Minister. I'm certainly not going to say she was not my Prime Minister. I guess we have different relationships to our respective countries.

Like I've said before, in many areas the GOP and the Dems are simply sides of the same coin. I'm not sure if you consider Dick Cheney to be a conservative but he was clearly leading the charge on this issues.

I agree Laz, I definitely consider him and previous ones as my Presidents. I didn't vote for either one, but there are still my Presidents.

Neither you nor PKrause liked the usage of the term "YOUR President"? That's all I heard from the Left's supporters all during the Bush Presidency - they didn't vote for him, he wasn't legitimate, so he wasn't THEIR President. I think the movie showing the wishful assassination of a sitting President Bush drove that point home by the Left.

That wasn't just media - these were die-hard Democrats I worked with and had to interface with each and every day. Sauce for the goose, as the saying goes. Yes, they do have a very different perspective toward government. I do not share in it though.

No, we don't have different perspectives, Laz. Truthfully - Mr Obama is my President - but I do not see my President as being faithful to his vows, and additionally, I see him as participant in far more corruption and scandal than either Clinton or Richard Nixon. Unlike Nixon's Republican Party, though, the current Democrat party revels in the corruption it feels it is entitled to get away with.

That aside...my question remains - if Obama championed the feelings of those who opposed Bush, why has Obama not only not struck away the Bush policies, but rather strengthened them?

Margaret Thatcher was your Prime Minister, even though you never voted for her? Well, did you participate in the Left's dignified farewell to her?

You've said many times Dems and Reps are two sides of the same coin??? Funny - I thought I'd been saying that for years now. I think you've finally found a point where we're agreed on something.

Finally - Dick Cheney, a conservative? How might you have come by that deduction? He's a Blueblood, Rockfeller style of Republican, not even close to the Taft style of Republican, which in turn is not even close to the grass-roots conservatives which I have spoken of at length.

Add to that Karl Rove, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, and the whole host of republican leadership currently in office now. Those aren't conservatives. They are "Democrat Lite".

Neither party has the political spine to do what really needs to be done - not here, and not in any other country, either.

Blessings,

I'd like to see that quote that says I don't like that term?

I never heard one person that didn't like what Bush was doing, saying he wasn't there President but I will agree most if not all those opposed to Bush definitely complained, no matter what he did, be it good or bad. Which is exactly what's happening right now. And as far as the movie, I never watched it and wont waste my time. And as I mentioned in my previous post, I might not have voted for Bush, he was definitely my President and as far as I'm concerned, I thought he was the right man for the job when 9/11 happened. Personally I think Gore would've botched the job. Never liked Gore and never will.

And I've worked with many die-hard republicans who acted the same way while Clinton was President.

And I've just about never seen any President be able to be faithful to there vows. That's why I hate when I hear these guys say they will do this or that. Because more than not they can't deliver.

Oh, I heard it all of the time. In fact, I have to say it was the first time I had heard it so much. That was said even when Reagan was President, so it is nothing new at all.

Yes, Obama is our President, but I can certainly understand anyone who would say that he was not THEIR President. Why? Because he has done more against what being American truly is. He is way worse than Bush was and I thought Bush was really bad.

We have only seen the minute starting of what we have in store for us in the coming future though, whether Republican (Democrat Light), Democrat, or any other supposed party. The powers that be have absolute control and they will not, under any circumstances, reliquish any control.
