It would be helpful if the MDs would explain to each patient the cause of their cancer.

It's often impossible to say exactly what caused your specific cancer, because cancers are complex, multifaceted beasts that can have a lot of causes.

I'm going to make these numbers up because the point is what's important and it can be broadly applied to a vast number of similar situations, but say 1% of non-smokers eventually get lung cancer and 5% of heavy smokers eventually get lung cancer. Assuming good study design you can reasonably say that 4 out of 5 smokers with lung cancer got it from smoking, but you still can't tell any one smoker why they got it with any certainty because one of the five would have gotten it anyway.

Statistically speaking, obviously.

There's several doctors on this thread so the following stated with idea of not intentionally insulting anyone and that there are doctors who are not like the following.

I take with a large grain salt of salt the conclusions of anyone who has a conflict of interest. By that I mean, doctors have a vested financial interest in maintaining the belief that only "conventional" medicine works. Their livelihood is based upon "conventional" medicine and anything that leads the public away from them and their medical practices/treatments has a detrimental effect upon their livelihood. This leads a lot of doctors to give blanket condemnations of anything that differs from "conventional" medicine, and others to give slanted opinions.

"There are many ways of practicing the healing art,

but there is only one way that Heaven approves."

5 Testimonies 443.

Point well taken, Gordon1. Now if we could just get everyone to follow those principles from birth, I would suggest we'd already be in Heaven. In the meantime Jesus asks us to minister to those who haven't yet been persuaded by Christians to accept God's ideals. Or even God for that matter, by some.

451. There are many ways of practicing the healing art; but there is only one way that Heaven approves. God’s remedies are the simple agencies of nature, that will not tax or debilitate the system through their powerful properties. Pure air and water, cleanliness, a proper diet, purity of life, and a firm trust in God, are remedies for the want of which thousands are dying; yet these remedies are going out of date because their skillful use requires work that the people do not appreciate. Fresh air, exercise, pure water, and clean, sweet premises, are within the reach of all, with but little expense; but drugs are expensive, both in the outlay of means, and the effect produced upon the system.—Testimonies for the Church 5:443, 1885

Be careful about applying comments about the state of medicine in the 19th century to medicine in the 21st. A lot has changed.

Having pursued those principles for the last 50 years and today having better health than most people half my age, I don't see it unreasonable to continue to accept that advice as without peer, up to the present day and age.

While not being perfect in my own discipline and so developing some aggravating nuisance health issues, therefore needing to recognize the mercy and grace of God as the primary reason for the health I have, it is obvious to me that practicing the health principles has only revealed God's desire for us to walk in paths He has outlined for a body He made to last without end.

And having had in the last 15 years, 3 vehicle accidents severe enough to have been fatal for any of the occupants, any one following healthful practices are still beholden to God's overruling providences for a pain free existence and lack of chronic illness.

Of the two "adopted grandfathers" I had from when I was a child, one of them strictly followed the SDA lifestyle and the other one ate bacon every day for breakfast. Guess which one died of a heart attack at 59 and which one is still alive three decades later?

My own stepfather just had a heart attack, and he's been religiously following EGW's health advice for his entire adult life. My mom has severe osteoporosis at a fairly young age.

There's a reason we don't value anecdotal evidence, but I'm glad whatever you're doing (likely mostly your genetics) is working for you.

So your good health is due to your lifestyle habits, and any health problems you do have are due to your imperfect implementation of those lifestyle habits?

How do you know this?

For the most part, at least for my responsibility in acknowledging God's care, it was following a different lifestyle when younger, than that which was given man when he was created.

Before I made the commitment to follow specific principles given at creation, I would get troublesome colds a minimum of eight times per year. I cannot remember any colds I've had in the last 23-4 years we've lived in this house, nor can I remember when I had a cold before that as an adult after being convinced vegetarianism made sense since God's ideal was never that animals should have to die for the sake of someone's life being spared, not to mention never a flu bug in that time either. Before, once a year minimum for a bad case of flu was inevitable.

Chronic pain has been non-existent even as I have aged, although occasionally I'll get a temporary pain when grumbling about my beloved spouse's need for pain killers for some of her maladies, and since I spend a good measure of time responding to Jesus' desire to guide me, I'm satisfied He gives those moments so I'll be a little more sympathetic for her needs when she's hurting.

I like to think my greatest reason for good health though, is the fulfillment of this promise.

"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. "

3 John 1:2-3 NKJV

This was a desire on the part of one servant of the lord Jesus, for another, and I'm satisfied if the Holy Spirit prompts one to have that desire for another, God would wish no less for me.

BTW, at one particular time, I had some regular income that was going to provide against possible physical loss and I told God that if He would take care of my health, I would dedicate that amount to Him in areas in which I knew He was most interested. He didn't say no so I accepted that as a yes, and He's never failed to meet my needs as well as giving me excellent health, though at least once I've had to exercise some personal effort to see that it happened, speaking of a recent physical incident.
