Mother's day 2013

In most of North America we celebrate Mother's day this weekend.

Some of us are blessed to have our mother still. It is a privilege, isn't it?

I call my mother several times a week, no matter where I am in the world. She is living in Alberta Canada, and I value her a lot.

Tell us about your mother, if she is alive or sleeping, no matter.

What are some of your fondest memories?

My Mom is still alive, she will be 88 this August. What my greatest memories of her are and will always be, is her work ethic. She always, with her actions not words, showed us the meaning of working hard and doing the right thing.

I have a lot of mothering going on over here: two living grandmothers, one grandmother-in-law, a mother, a mother-in-law and a step-mother. I'm thankful for each of them for different reasons--and I think each of them knows it, even without the traditional Mother's Day brunch, cards, phone calls and flowers.

I lost my Mum about 22 years ago, and miss her a lot: would love to have been able to have her meet her granddaughters as the young ladies they are now.

The Mother's Day celebrations at our house have been postponed for a week, because one of our daughters is in Singapore this weekend, on her way home from 3 weeks volunteering in Cambodia.

am sure she would love meeting your wonderful daughters. Did she get to hold them at all?

A couple of questions, I thought Mother's day was a different Sunday there. (WARNING I have been wrong before)

My mother passed away in 2004, at the age of 96. I still think of her often, and subconsciously want to go to her and tell her something that's been happening which I know she'd enjoy knowing.

Our family's Mother's Day has now become a celebration by my three children, honoring me! I can't believe I'm the matriarch of the family now; I don't FEEL old! So, since my Big-O birthday comes two weeks later, my three children will all be converging upon our old "homestead" for the weekend. We'll attend church service together, then go out for lunch where we used to go, years ago. The restaurant is still there, but the good times of meeting all our church friends there when we arrived have all been changed. But our family now numbers in the 20s, so we'll have a big group there and be able to chat about old times.

What makes me all warm inside is that my doctor-son was the first one to respond and said he'll be here, for sure [though he lives the farthest distance away].

These three kids all came from the same genetic background [i.e., the same two parents], but are so different from each other. It's extremely interesting seeing them take over the leadership of the family [e.g. during my major surgery and hospitalization lately]. My daughter [the baby, who's 44 and has a neat hubby and 4 children] does most of the planning; the eldest [who's 52] is a take-charge legal eagle, and he has "all the answers" to anybody else's questions; the doctor son is the kindest, dearest, physically-fit dad to his teenagers but yet so loving to his wife and to his own mom.

Well, happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there.

Yeah, she was quite ill (leukaemia), but hung on long enough to meet Cassie, just after she was born, and my sister's son who was born around the same time. She passed away soon after, so she never met Alex. Maybe in heaven...

Yeah, I was a little surprised to see your post, because it usually is. Maybe a spot of synchronisation going on... which is probably a good thing in a global world.

Mum was 51 when she died. I'm 49 now. It seems so very young...

YOu had another daughter who gave you a grandchild when before she passed? Or did I read it wrong.

Nah, I wrote it wrong (fixed it now). I meant my sister's son! I was only 26 at the time, didn't have a grandchild.

My mother is my best friend, we talk several times a week, and attend church together. When I have to take one of the kids out of town to a specialist she comes with us, and it is non-stop talking for the entire trip down and back. Our jaws will literally hurt from talking so much. She will be 73 this year and both she and Dad are in pretty good shape health-wise, he turns 80 this month. In fact, they are going on vacation this week leaving on Sunday and we are keeping their very spoiled parakeet. My brother is keeping their two spoiled dogs who think they are people. I got the better deal. :)

Happy Mother's day to all the CA members who are mothers and to all the member's mothers. I'm glad that at age 86 my mom is still in good health. Today she is out babysitting of a neighbor's handicapped brother so that the sister and her family can go out for Mother's day. I'll be stopped over some on my way home from work last night and now to go over and surprise her with flowers and some food before going to work.
