He died of lung cancer.

He had quit smoking 20 years ago, but started up again after 9/11.

His death seems to have shaken the news industry - there have been several reports about tobacco on NBC's evening news.

Peter Jennings was a self-educated man. He was a high school drop out that read most every book he could get his hands on.
