Reasons For The Iraq War

• Intelligence that Iraq had WMDs
• Saddam's contempt for UN resolutions
• Iraq lack of cooperatioon with UN inspectors. The burden was on Iraq to comply and disarm. Inspectors were to be inspectors, not detectives.
• Saddam continued to pursue chemical, biological and nuclear weapons
• Because of the way Saddam implemented it, sanctions led to thousands of people dying needlessly in Iraq every year.
• The credibility of the UN was on the line
• Saddam gave safe harbor to terrorists.
• Iraq oppressed its citizens, started two wars of aggression against its neighbours, and was a threat to the security of its region and the world.
• Iraq could provide terrorists with chemical and/or biological weapons

What we discovered after the invasion is that Saddam was misleading the world's intelligence agencies to believe he had WMDs while at the same time he was bribing UN Security Council members. We discovered that through the Oil-For-Food program he was currupting UN members to eventially get sanctions lifted completely so he could resume his WMDs programs.

If the US would not have invaded it is not likely the Oil-For-Food scandel would have ever been discovered. The sanctions on Iraq would have been lifted and Saddam would have continued his WMD programs. We would have ended up in the same situation with Iraq that we now find ourselves in with Iran and North Korea.

So we can compare the situation to the police getting a warrant to search someone's house because they suspect him of counterfeiting. Upon searching the house they find no counterfeit money but find a lot of information about it on his hard drive, checks written out to purchase the equipment and they discover he had been bribing members of the police department.
