How Do You Spell Knaidel?

This is a article, at least to me. Thought I'd share.

Arvind V. Mahankali, a 13 year old from Brooklyn, won American’s 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 30 by correctly spelling the word knaidel. His win spotlighted Yiddish, the mamaloshen (mother tongue) of many Ashkenazi yidden (Jews) around the world.

Actually, his win made some people farblonget (confused), for as far as many are concerned, there’s no standardized English spelling of Yiddish words. Knaidel (dumpling), a tasty nosh (snack), might just as easily be spelled kneidel or knaidle – or even knaydl.

That's pretty good pkrause. I really like those dumplings. Only had them a few times but found them to be kind of addicting.

I have to relate a story that, believe it or not, happened just seconds before I read your post.

In the library I use for internet access the internet access gets very slow at times because a T1 connection is being shared between two organizations and 40 to 50 users at times. The guy sitting across the table from me started grumbling about how slow the connection was for his download. He went on and on about it even after I explained why.

He finally stopped grumbling about the slow connection and logged off his computer and shut it down. As he was putting it in his carrying case I said, Ah, finally just giving it up, huh? His answer was, After years and years of study I've come to the inescapable conclusion that the Jews are the cause of all the world's problems.

I thought he was joking at first, and then realized he was serious, so I said, yeah, they even slow down your internet connection.... He growled some reply at me with a frown on his face as I guess he didn't appreciate my sarcasm, and then left. A few seconds later a woman came and sat down at the table with me and I told her about the guy. We shared a pretty good laugh at his expense.

The guy was a real maroon. On top of his stupid anti-semitism, he first started out talking about how he is using the internet to get free television programs so he wouldn't have to pay for a cable or satellite connection. Then he was using a free internet connection to get them, and grumbling pretty loudly, so the library employees could hear, about how bad the connection was. All I could think while listening to him was, beggars can't be choosers, loser.

This is in itself pretty funny, dgrimm. Kevin hasn't posted here.... Sorry, it was just really funny because it's something I do on occasion. Now I get to laugh with someone else, rather than just at myself.
