joeb Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I have a rough time sleeping because of back pain and usually wake up around 1 a.m. and stay awake until around 4 a.m. and the sleep sitting up on the couch until around 6 when I get up for the day. I woke up at my usual time and figured to do my usual reading and Bible study until I could fall asleep again. I booted my laptop and couldn't use it. The screen was acting like a TV that had lost the ability to control vertical hold, only it was much quicker in motion. I tried everything I could think of to control it but had no success. I tried shutting it down, leaving it off for a few seconds and then restarting it several times with no success. Since I'd never seen this kind of symptom on a computer screen before I figured my 10 year old laptop was dying. I was really bummed out. All my study materials are on my laptop, as all my paper books are in storage and inaccessable to me. I asked God if He would fix the problem but after praying I still had the same problem. So, I shut it down and eventually fell asleep. After I took my wife to work today and got to the library everything worked. All I can say is, Thank you Lord. Thank God for small miracles. Textus Receptus Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I think it was more of a miracle that we have a brother called Joeb that wanted to study the word when he could not sleep! Amen! I am glad your studies were not lost! And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose Rom 8:28 Quote

That's why I called it a "small miracle". The greatest of all miracles is that I'm someone who loves to study God's word. Anyone who had seen me a few decades ago would have never associated me with studying God's word. JoeMo Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 I think it's really cool that you are looking for miracles. We all would see alot more miracles if we looked at what God is doing rather than what He is NOT doing. My mom was recently healed (I think miraculously) from terminal bladder cancer. She and most of the rest of the people I know credit the amazing skill of the doctors. Let's say they are right. Aren't the amazing advances in medicine over the past several decades a small miracle as well? Quote

I agree that it was due to the amazing skill of the Dr's God given knowledge, equipment and many prayers. YES ... I would go so far as to say they are Major Miracles! ChildofChrist Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Such a scary feeling to think of hours of work gone from easy access. I've got three old hard drives that I need to get downloaded when I get my hands on them again. While my current laptop is fairly new, I try to back up the most important stuff on a flash drive, That way, I could always borrow someone's to print off etc. All I'm suggesting is...back your work up! Oh, I agree about the importance of backup, but without another laptop I'd have nothing to transfer my studies to. And buying another laptop in the near future is pretty much impossible. My OS is free, but hardware costs money, and since I run Linux I have to carefully pick my hardware. Laptops are notorious for being unfriendly to Linux. It also means I couldn't just borrow a Windows machine and access my work as I use very little software that runs on both Windows and Linux.
