Louisiana governor Kathleen Blanco announced yesterday that she was accepting her blame as well. She was not very specific about what she meant though. She was the one who ordered the trucks FEMA and the Red Cross had loaded with food, drinking water, and other supplies to stay where they were, and not deliver what they had ready to the Superdome or the New Orleans Cummunity Center--lest people be encouraged to disobedy the order for mandatory evacuation. It is ironic that FEMA has been so criticized for not being prepared. Governor Blano is also the one who refused to sign the required forms to request federalization of the Louisiana National Guard, so the feds could move in and take a more active role, even though President Bush brought the forms with him for her to sign the first time he met with her. We'll see how much of a "teflon governor" she turns out to be in the next election--if she is not recalled before them.
