Ellen White's sense of humor!!

On her 87th birthday Mrs. White received a present from Minnie DeVinney. It was a warm, knitted vest, known as a “hug-me-tight,” to be worn on cold days. When Ellen White tried it on, she told Dores Robinson to thank Sister DeVinney for the gift, but to tell her "that there is a great deal more to Sister White than some people thought."

I love stories about Mrs. White's sense of humor. While I have not been able to verify, in my college spirit of prophecy class the professor told one story where the Whites were asked by a church to stop worshiping with them because they felt that they giggled too much and joked to much.

Another story that I believe I got from the movie "I remember Ellen White" where they interviewed people who met her, one speaker told how she always had a sense of humor and gave the story of once when her boys were still small, they were at a home for dinner and the boys were being stubborn. This was starting to become an awkward situation until James and Ellen broke the tension; James pointing to his wife and saying "You can see where they got their stubbornness from!" and Ellen replying "Well, at least I gave my stubbornness to children and did not keep it like you did!"

Some better documented stories include how once she was going to have dinner at a home. The parents told the children that a prophet was coming and that the kids could not play and had to be very serious because the prophet is a stern and serious person. The kids were worried about this strict lady coming. When she came she said to Willie "Didn't we bring some toys for the children?" and Willie pulled them out and she played with the children and they ended up just loving her and having such fun with her.

And another time she was having a salt water bath. The person assisting her accidently grabbed sugar instead of salt that they put in the water. Mrs. White replied "Trying to sweeten me up?"
