cricket Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Should Adventists click Google Ads on a Saturday? Discuss. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted August 3, 2013 Administrators Posted August 3, 2013 Good question! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
CoAspen Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 The question, in my mind, suggests a possible negative to doing so. So for me that generates another question before answering! Why does being an 'Adventist' make doing such a possible wrong? Quote
Moderators Gerr Posted August 3, 2013 Moderators Posted August 3, 2013 Should Adventists click Google Ads on a Saturday? The answer to that question, imo, lies in one's answer to this question - what does the Sabbath mean to you? Quote
Members phkrause Posted August 3, 2013 Members Posted August 3, 2013 Wow, a few good questions to really mull over for a while! Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 3, 2013 Members Posted August 3, 2013 I suppose a "good" Adventist wouldn't even read billboards or other signs, including traffic signals, on the Sabbath. ....what folly, that!!!... ...which begs another question: do SDA TV and radio stations broadcast advertisements on the Sabbath? (I think the answer is "yes," but I'm not a radio listener, nor do I watch Adventist TV) Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Members phkrause Posted August 3, 2013 Members Posted August 3, 2013 I've never notice any ads on 3abn or hope channel. Not sure about the others, but I have not had access to them since moving back to Mass. So it could've changed. cricket Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 I could have just as easily asked, "Should a sentient being click on Google Ads on a Saturday?" Quote

cricket Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 A flip side question: Should an organization (i.e., a website, youth group, church or other .org) that promotes Seventh-day Adventism accept money from Saturday ad-clicks? Quote
Liz Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Well in my opinion, the organizations that have such ads probably can't tell which money is from Saturday vs. any other day of the week. I'm not a very techy person so perhaps they can? But it seems that it would be difficult to tell when the clicks happened on Friday for one country and on Sabbath in another part of the world. I also think it would be very difficult and time-consuming to shut the ads down each week on Friday and turn them on again on a Sunday; or on Thursday and Monday, thereby making sure that no one in the world "sins" by clicking on an ad on the Sabbath in their time zone. As for it being a sin, I think that it is one of those things that each person has to decide for themselves and how they feel led by GOD. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 4, 2013 Members Posted August 4, 2013 and then there's the problem of time zones and the international dateline... cricket Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 I'd have to guess that they definitely can tell. My reasoning is that in a non-for-profit organisation, a bookkeeper must be able to tell when a donation is made for tax purposes. It might be time consuming, but I think it's do-able. It's not really an issue to me, but I thought it something worth discussing. To me, an organisation should be doing the very things it promotes and setting a standard for which others might strive. If the organisation promotes health, it should be a healthy environment. If it promotes safety, be a safe environment. If it promotes Sabbath keeping, keep the Sabbath. If it promotes good stewardship, be mindful of the organisation stewardship. Quote
