LifeHiscost Posted August 5, 2013 Author Posted August 5, 2013 ("Send me some some money" is always a quick turn off for me) As often as not I arrive at the same conclusion. Then I remember that this world runs on money. Even the printing presses and the Gutenberg Bible had to be paid for with someone's money. And the pilgrim's cruise to America, to escape religious intolerance must have cost a bundle. Some have found that a good reason to remain in slavery. We're well on our way, but for the intervention of God's grace. "Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed. “We remember the fish we used to eat for free in Egypt. And we had all the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic we wanted. But now our appetites are gone. All we ever see is this manna!” And Moses said to the Lord, “Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people? Did I give birth to them? Did I bring them into the world? Why did you tell me to carry them in my arms like a mother carries a nursing baby? How can I carry them to the land you swore to give their ancestors? Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery!”"Numbers 11:4-6, 11-15 NLT God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
CFK1 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I didn't watch the whole video, but I watched enough to realize there's two sides to every story. Take the use of rainwater, for instance. The representation on this video is blown way out of proportion. The news report I read just this past weekend clarified that rain water captured from your dwelling is not prohibited. The law is aimed at people who are harvesting rainwater and profiting from it. There is no doubt that America is heading for some rough times and that we are not the nation we once were. But the goal of this kind of video, whether the producers will admit it or not, is to get people worked up. It's part of the fuel that fires the mob-mentality. The theatrics (sounds, sights) are geared toward that. That is not the response Christians are to have to the world's troubles. Rather than focusing on what we are losing, it's a whole lot more profitable to focus on what we have: God's all-sufficient hand, come what may. Our needs will be met ... that's his promise. My suggestion to would-be video producers: make more videos of that! Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 5, 2013 Members Posted August 5, 2013 The video gave some absolutely FASCINATING detail about the Indiana law requiring everyone who purchases an alcoholic beverage to produce a PHOTO ID. Simply astounding! I shall now be able to drive in Oregon without fear of being accosted by a giant sloth that was being hunted by a drunk from Indiana who had illegally purchased an alcoholic beverage.. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Ted Oplinger Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 (whispers, "Are we hunting wabbits again?") :) Quote "As iron sharpens iron, so also does one man sharpen another" - Proverbs 27:17 "The offense of the cross is that the cross is a confession of human frailty and sin and of inability to do any good thing. To take the cross of Christ means to depend solely on Him for everything, and this is the abasement of all human pride. Men love to fancy themselves independent. But let the cross be preached, let it be made known that in man dwells no good thing and that all must be received as a gift, and straightway someone is offended." Ellet J. In response to what I bolded, if it's now illegal to profit from rainwater then it ought to be illegal to profit from sunshine too. My suggestion to would-be video producers: make more videos of that! I'm not sure I agree about the law not being aimed at those collecting water from one's own dwelling for private use. Water rights issues make for some awfully weird - and intrusive - laws and court rulings. California is contending with the Rocky Mountain states in the Colorado River Basin that snow melt and rainfall belong to the users of the Colorado River in California (aka, Los Angeles and its surrounding cities/farmlands). The pitch they are making is that even rainfall off a private roof should be illegal to collect for even private usage - it is water belonging to California. Water Rights is destined to become yet another "have/have not" wedge issue... One of the reasons Divine Authority stands aside and allows secular powers to create havoc and uncertainty, is to enable those who are given free will to see the baleful results of their independent efforts, hopefully to place hope in the creator God Who is sovereign and omniscient, and to see the wisdom in giving theirselve's over to His undying Love before it is too late.
