Have you ever noticed that many of our Christian brothers and sisters flock to our aid when we are physically ill or injusred; but vanish into thin air when we are mentally, emotionally, or spiritually ill? Of course, non-physical illnesses and injuries are the result of sin in our life; and are God's fair punishment for those sins; right? Wouldn't you think God giving a spiritual beating to His kids (or bride - whatever you want to call it)is tantamount to shild or spouse abuse? Can you hear God saying "Oh, you won't pay your tithe, huh? Well take that! (throws cancer at you)Now your gonna learn the hard way about keeping my rules! This cancer is gonna cost you ten times what tithe would have cost you!" I can't. An experiment - next time you sin, instead of waiting for God to "cool off" before confessing, confess immediately; and offer to take any punishment God has for you. I predict that the only "punishment" you receive is a feeling of unrequiting love, forgiveness, and compassion; and encouragement (not threats) to sin no more. Shouldn't we as parents and spouses treat others the same way? God may convict us of a sin; but He doesn't torture us through condemnation. Condemnation and torure are the realm of the devil - not God's realm. Quote

We cannot go through life controlling what others do or say to us. All we can do is have a proper attitude towards those who have hurt us. "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit"(Romans 15:13). Walk with the King, and be a blessing! Administrators Naomi Posted August 13, 2013 Administrators Posted August 13, 2013 Yes, I agree it is sick ... having been an abused wife I understand a great deal of the dynamics involved in this issue. On the other hand during my years of being involved with the police and also as court clerk, I can understand why people are reluctant to become involved. There are two sides to that coin; often it is a loose-loose situation. I can't understand why a reputable counselor, or anyone for that matter, would insist that a woman or man (yes there are seriously abused men as well as women) would continue to live in the same residence with an abuser. Legal separation and tons of counseling may be the answer for some ... for others ??? The Big D probably saved my life and that of at least one child. Is their no recognition that we have an enemy, the prince of darkness, who is in a controversy with the God of love and hope? Will we ever fully understand, while in this world, why our Father steps aside allowing him to perpetrate his evil deeds? Especially when it happens to those who we believe are without fault, ie: babies yet without reasoning ability? When we come to to the position of trust that God is not only sovereign but just and merciful, and submit even as Jesus submitted to His tormenters, it helps us to know that someday He will give us the answers. I'm talking of submission to God's will, not to those who abuse us if that is an intolerable circumstance. That makes it easier to shift the results over to Him Who knows when to slay and when to have mercy, as opposed to working it out on my own and possibly making matters worse as a result of my own ignorance of the perpetrators needs as a sinner. Cops have been called on occasion. I have done it myself. We have had a few domestics, one shooting, one renter died on the front lawn of a heart attack as he was being arrested. Ted Oplinger Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 It would seem people will take the "easier" risk of confronting a drummer exercising his talent, than the tougher risk to come to a woman's aid in a potential domestic abuse situation. It's not like they heard this so frequently as to be numbed to it...this was new to the apartment in question. Nobody wanted to take the risk. Says a lot about today's society...however...what if that was right next door to one of us? Getting involved in what the Bible calls standing up for the disadvantaged, carries with it big risks... Food for thought...
