Administrators Gail Posted August 20, 2013 Administrators Posted August 20, 2013 Well, I don't know what I think of this. These photos sure bring out vulnerability and sensitivity. I don't have anything against certain emotions and males. But, IMO, I don't think a man needs to look effeminate to portray his feminine side. It seems to me as though all the men in these photos do. Thoughts? The feminine side of masculinity? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

cricket Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Hmm. I didn't think that ALL of the photos were effeminate. And, I guess I know a lot of different types of men than Stan, because I can see some of the men I know doing this (and have seen some of the men I know do this!). Quote

Some are following after the image of God while others choose not to, making your solution somewhat simplistic. "For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies." John 8:44 NLT God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Satan's goal through the culture is the absorption of masculinity into androgyny. Why? Because he hates the creational truths of Genesis. No further answer is needed. olger Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Every division of human beings into subgroups - especially 'more and less virtuous subgroups' - has ended disastrously. You mean like this sub-group? "To the woman He said:“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband,And he shall rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’, cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. [18] Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you,And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are,And to dust you shall return.” And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living" (Genesis 3:17-20). Administrators Gail Posted August 21, 2013 Author Administrators Posted August 21, 2013 Every division of human beings into subgroups - especially 'more and less virtuous subgroups' - has ended disastrously. Bravus, I am not quite clear as to what you are referring to, which subgroup and who is doing it, us or the photographer. My point is that the models used for the images shown had a look of feminity already- fair-skinned, boyish. To me that seems odd because they look unscarred by life. If the models had a look of being weathered by life or aged, for them to show feminity, vulnerability, would have added to the range of images. My hubby, who is a man's man, football star in university, huge arms and legs, has a strong feminine side. He will tell you that himself. And as a woman I appreciate that, although I don't think I necessarily like my men to be as tuned in to their feminine side. Interesting discussion, and I thought it would be. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Liz Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I keep looking at those pictures, and I just don't see a wide range of emotions either feminine or masculine, a couple of them are crying=sad, but the rest either look tired or cold. I think Gail is right, that they should have used a wider range of ages from toddlerhood to aged to achieve the emotions they were going for. Moderators Bravus Posted August 21, 2013 Moderators Posted August 21, 2013 I'm perhaps similar to Russ: big, strong, hairy, undeniably male, but in touch with many characteristics traditionally seen as 'feminine'. My point, which got sidetracked a bit by LHC's posts, was just that masculinity and femininity are both human social constructions. They take the full set of possible human characteristics and say to each sex 'some of these are not for you'. In my view we'd all be better off being more fully human and having more range - and stopping telling ourselves and others 'you must limit yourself to this subset'. Quote Truth is important

George Holliday, a resident in the nearby area, witnessed the beating and videotaped much of it from the balcony of his nearby apartment. The videotaped footage shows five Los Angeles area officers surrounding King and several of them striking him repeatedly. During the beating of King, other officers stood by, without seeming to take action to stop King from being struck. A portion of the footage was aired around the world, inflaming public outrage in Los Angeles and other American cities where racial tension was often high. The videotape also increased public sensitivity to, and anger about, police brutality, racism, and other social inequalities throughout the United States. Four of the police officers from the LAPD who engaged in the incident were charged in Los Angeles County Superior Court with assault with a deadly weapon and use of excessive force for their conduct during the incident. After a judicial finding that a fair and impartial jury could not be impaneled in Los Angeles County, the case was given a change of venue to the city of Simi Valley, in Ventura County, where they were tried. On April 29, 1992, three of the four police officers, (Koon, Wind, and Briseno) were acquitted of all charges. The jury acquitted the fourth officer, (Powell), on the assault with a deadly weapon charge but failed to reach a verdict on the use of excessive force charge. The jury deadlocked at 8-4 in favor of acquittal. The acquittals are generally considered to have triggered the 1992 Los Angeles riots, in which 53 people were killed, and over two thousand were injured. The riots ended after soldiers from the United States Army National Guard, along with United States Marines from nearby Camp Pendleton, California, were called in to assist local authorities and quell the riots. On August 4, 1992 a Federal grand jury after hearing evidence from federal prosecutors, indicted the four officers on charges of violating King's civil rights. The four men were put on trial on February 25, 1993 in the United States District Court for the Central District of California located in downtown Los Angeles. On April 16, 1993 the trial ended with two of the police officers, (Koon and Powell) found guilty, and subsequently imprisoned. The other two officers, (Wind and Briseno) were acquitted. During the riots, King appeared on television and offered what would later be his famous plea, "Why can't we all just get along?" Bold mine LHC God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
