bonnie Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Brave woman Antoinette Tuff: Meet the Woman Who Prevented a Mass School Shooting Yesterday Fortunately, Tuesday's gunman incident at an elementary school near Atlanta ended with no injuries or deaths. This is mainly thanks to Antoinette Tuff, a school clerk who spent about an hour calmly persuading the gunman to put his rifle down and surrender. READ: Antoinette Tuff 911 Call Reveals How She Prevented Gunman From Mass Killing Tuff feared the worst when she encountered the gunman carrying an AK-47 assault rifle and other weapons in her school office. She told reporters, "I saw a young man ready to kill anybody that he could." Approximately 870 pre-kindergarten to fifth grade students at the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur, Georgia were safely evacuated during the incident. While the gunman exchanged some shots with the police, no one was hurt. Tuff told Atlanta's local news station that the 20-year-old gunman was able to pass the school's security because he followed a parent who had not shut the door. She immediately began speaking with the gunman in an attempt to reason with him. The gunman told her he had nothing to live for before loading his gun. "I just started talking to him ... I let him know what was going on with me and that it would be OK," she said. "I give it all to God, I'm not the hero. I was terrified." She told ABC's Diane Sawyer that much of her conversation focused not only on trying to understand the gunman, but also on trying to get the gunman to relate to her. "I just started telling him stories," she said, and things like, "You don't have to die today." Tuff told him a story of tragedy in her own life, and explained to reporters that she simply asked him to put his weapons down and surrender to police. She "talked him through it" by reminding him that "life will still bring about turns, but we can learn from it." Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Members phkrause Posted August 22, 2013 Members Posted August 22, 2013 Excellent article and courage by this woman. It doesn't always turn out this good, but talking someone down takes a lot of faith. Neil D Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 didja notice, PK, she did it WITHOUT a gun ! AND she did it in such a way that this guy has another chance for the Holy Spirit to work on him..... AND she prayed all during the encounter..... Do you realize what this means????? Bonnie, a gun activist, posted a non-violent story that supports the non-violent ways to talk a gun toting intruder down.....and it safes his life and allows God to continue to work on him.... This is something to praise the Lord about.... Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. George Bernard Shaw

This is something to praise the Lord about.... Unfortunately there are always those that want to try to present someone else's opinion as extreme. There is nothing you can find that has ever indicated that I believe someone with a permit to carry a gun should leap at the first opportunity to shoot someone. As for this man living and "allowing God to work on him" that was a choice he was willing to take from others. Many have. While the salvation of one is important,I believe those killed by these nut jobs are just as important. Had this woman not been able to talk him down(which is more often the case) and someone had an opportunity to prevent him from slaughtering dozens and did not, would you have preferred that end? Giving the Holy Spirit more work on him.....,while denying that same opportunity to many others. One made a conscious choice that day ,those he intended to kill did not. Neil D Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Unfortunately there are always those that want to try to present someone else's opinion as extreme. Opinion?? there is no assumptions in this post....Extreme??? what that woman did was extreme..in fact, it was extraordinary! This post was a plain "praise the Lord", and 'hell must be freezing over 'cus Bonnie and I are agreeing' post. What could be wrong with that, Bonnie? Answer a plain simple question, Bonnie? Why can't you just post a "thank you for agreeing with me" post??? Has it ever occured to you that there is something wrong when you will not take a compliment from anyone? even from someone you consider an adversary?
