Administrators Gail Posted August 23, 2013 Administrators Posted August 23, 2013 The other thread about the feminine part of masculinity brought to mind this book just newly released by a friend of mine: Trudy, a journalist, interviewed 50 spiritual leaders concerning the maternal personality traits of God that are highlighted in Scripture. Some folks refuse to believe that there is such a thing. But what do they do when they read of God's nurturing side? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
olger Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Boy, you're really into this stuff. I'd read it but I'm busy writing - thanks. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Administrators Gail Posted August 23, 2013 Author Administrators Posted August 23, 2013 You mean to say that you are into the identities of the genders and you don't recognise that God placed some of His traits into each of them in order that together they would give a more complete image of God? Or do you think that men got them all? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Windsor Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 The question is, what difference does it make if we or the Bible ascribe what would traditionally be considered a maternal trait to God? Is it supposed to make us love Him more? Quote Remember Adventists Online?
Gibs Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 All I know is, God proclaims He is Father of all and the first and only mother on record is Eve. An old writing goes that Lilith was Adams first wife and she refused to be under Adam and flew off an evil spirit. I am not sure of the name Lilith or the spelling, been too long since I read it. Here is a link and more are available if any care to Persue this story, http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/1513/whats-the-story-on-lilith-adams-first-wife Just a comment! Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 24, 2013 Administrators Posted August 24, 2013 The question is, what difference does it make if we or the Bible ascribe what would traditionally be considered a maternal trait to God? Is it supposed to make us love Him more? Yes, for those that remember the tender love and selfless care of their own mother, or for those that are mothers. Thinking of God as father is along the same lines. But if one had a rotten father or mother, no. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. Or do you think that men got them all? So fathers aren't/can't_be nurturing? Where do you get that from? I've seen some pretty tender fathers in action. I never had one, nor a nurturing mother either, but I will vouch that nurturing fathers certainly do exist. My stepson has 2 daughters of his own and a step-daughter, and all of those girls are a lot closer to him than they are their mother. They go to their mother for the strictly female stuff, but go to him for everything else. There is a very strong bond between him and all three of his girls. He's a very loving father.
