Raphael Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Dear brothers and sisters, Gad has provided occasions to converse live with Him, as depicted in many bible portrayals... Moses felt inadequate and objected in a way or sense by stating his lack of oration skills which was followed by a most specific answer in a conversation-like form from God and many other similar instances found through out the bible. EG too, expressed many conversation-like exchanges with God (though she sometimes mentions the name, angel, as the being she was obtaining messages from), typical as an ask and answer form, seen in many of her writings. Also on how wonderful the yes or no jewels of the ancient Israelite priest could play their roles of conversation. (forgot the names of those jewels) There was this prophet (forgot his name too) that could converse with God that got the Israelites into the sin of adultery in there last stages of entrance into Canaan. I was just thinking ... is it an impossibility for ordinary common people like any one of us to experience this? The ABCs of Prayer is quite helpful but hasn't really given me the experience I am looking for. Doctrinal knowledge has wrought wonderful benefits to all, though sometimes it may get out of hand since as it is more of a skill thing as in contrast to the concept. Conceptual knowledge accepts understanding as enough proof of sufficient subject mastery ... one can't apply that to dancing or driving. It would be most hilarious if one would suffice oneself with understanding alone on a subject of singing for example. Doctrinal knowledge at times bring feelings of hallowness, never being capable of furnishing the live connection with God. Satan in all of his most intimate knowledge of God got him no where. Please don't mistake me for saying doctrinal knowledge as to be absolutely useless. Please bring and inspire enlightment to all of us hardcore doctrine knowledgable adventists, brethren. Norman Byers, N.D. Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Hi Raphael, God will choose whom He will talk to. We have no part in that. In others words I can't just decide that I will start a quest in order to have God talk to me in person. God calls and chooses. The ABCs of prayer. Prayer is not a program. It's like talking to someone only, you're talking to your Creator and Redeemer. (How great is that!) He will answer you and you'll know when He does. You must choose to believe that He has answered after you have prayed. (I'm not talking about asking for a new house or car etc.) Ask for what He offers. Try asking God to give you wisdom and a deeper relationship with Him, then rejoice because He promises to answer that. Seek the kingdom of God (in you) and His righteousness (not your own). As you begin to love God with all your heart mind and soul things will change for you. Read 1 Cor 13, doctrine or knowledge without love is not worth a whole lot. Many people try to ask God for favors or even to answer their sincere prayers. If they have had an opportunity to hear the Gospel and do not accept Jesus, God will not answer their prayers. (Prayers are in Jesus' name) But most of the time it is simply because people don't believe God will answer them. They ask selfishly or wishingly instead of confidently. Have patience, it may take years sometimes. As far as seeing God face to face that will only happen when Jesus comes to get us. Not a one of us could stand in His presence, our mind and heart would condemn so much that we would die. Think of a piece of paper next to a very hot fire, it may not touch it but it will burn. hope this helps my brother Norman Quote The unconditional pardon of sin never has been, and never will be. Michelle Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 My DH says that when God speaks to him, it's like getting an email direct to his brain. He can't explain it any other way. This does not happen every day, but when there are specific questions, there have been specific answers. M Quote
Raphael Posted October 5, 2005 Author Posted October 5, 2005 Thank you Norman, LifeHiscost and Michelle for your replies, they have been most strengthening. Indeed spiritual communications with the unseen can be most inexplicable. But before venturing any further I’d like to bring to question the meaning and usage of the word experiment. This word can be very frightening to many religious devotees simply because it’s easier to follow a trail than to blaze one. Or you can say it the other way around; it’s more difficult to blaze a trail than to follow one. EG used this word to denote the whole story of sin and redemption. (Ministers, pls correct me if I’m inaccurate). One can imagine the experiences of those pioneering the usage among beloved SDAs on the matter of male looking female attire, female short hairstyles, the cinema, the guitar and many others I can’t seem to put into words. Of course, experiment here doesn’t designate unaccountable mad endeavors, say the Frankenstein story. I also don’t agree on emotional prayer conduct, as the charismatic would do. Being emotional means being less sober to an extent that you may loose control over your self and something takes over. That’s what Sufis do in Iraq in their dancing prayers; also what mediums do. Being sober as ever is as EG counsels in her writings. As for “vain repetitions”, many uses the same words or requests in their lifetime daily prayers. How creative can you get in your lifetime daily prayers; thank you s, bless so & so & meal & sleep …any one could eventually even predict the contents of ones prayer. Probably the only difference is that these prayers offered again & again through out a lifetime are offered or closed in the name of our savior Jesus Christ. Giving rise to the question; can anything prayed or offered in Christ name be vain? Of course I’m referring to normal, not absurd or contorted Christian prayers (just in case somebody might get too imaginatively creative). Ok, there’s always another tomorrow. Raphael Posted October 9, 2005 Author Posted October 9, 2005 Hello again, I was hoping for someone to comment and make things livelier. Well, it doesn’t really matter. What do you think that most humans would generally agree to be somehow irreplaceable? Money, riches … maybe not. Life … every ones knows that. Let’s try to be more specific … a brother? …a sister? … a father? … a mother? … a wife? … a husband? … loved ones? Most people won’t easily consider love ones to be easily replaceable if not absolutely irreplaceable. But the bible says that whosoever sacrifices will gain a hundred fold (ministers please help me find that verse.) A hundred fold of families, sisters, brothers, & love ones, something rather seldom imagined or understood. An eternal heavenly life with perfect health of angelic proportions is something we all have already understood from the childhood of our spiritual lives. What do you think? Don’t you think this to be somehow mind staggering? Back to the word “experiment”, I’d like to propose another way of saying it; that is “the pursuit of truth”. Maybe the problem is that many of us may not be real pursuers of truth. but pursuers of temporal solutions. Based on the limited samples of bible portrayals of live communication with God in my first posting, one may find that live communication with God doesn’t guarantee anything, for example the prophet that got the Israelites into adultery at the entrance into Canaan. What guarantees is your earnestness to know the truth, to learn the truth and to be truthful. It’s somehow like the stop smoking program. Among others: expect to fail, anticipate failure and don’t give up. Unfortunately most of us (SDAs) have never been taught to accept the word failure as a real possibility in the realms of the moral world. It’s depressing to know that it’s only the stop smoking program that has been advocating this message. Trouble shooting beginning to medium levels of difficulty is a celebrity, while advance levels or almost impossible levels are disdained but is a celebrity to computer hackers whose goal is to hack the impossible in the computer world only, unfortunately. Actually I have an experiment on the mentioned lived communications I would like to share with all of us but I consider it unwise to post this in these postings. But if you message directly to me (a clubadventist feature) your email addresses I would be happy to write you. I prefer these sections of these very public postings for not too uncustomary matters. Love & forgiveness, Raphael Quote Test me with thy might but grant me safe passage. Now, who said that?
