PK, being an avid traveler of the west over my 40+ years of owning a vehicle, I MUST take exception to the 2 "Sleepy beach towns perfect for fall"....These beach towns maybe sleepy but they are still used quite extensively during the fall...If you want suggestions on the Oregon coast, of which I am more familiar, let me remind the readers that most NON-MAJOR cities would qualify as "sleepy beach towns" at any time during the year...but probably will be seen during the tourist season, of which the only road connecting them is a heavily traveled 101...

Bandon, Ore.-get your small idyllic "boats tied to dock" and old town with various shops...the beach is within a mile walk or a quick drive and has divine landscaped rocks placed in the beach for picture taking and climbing

Brookings- If you like to sail or have that need to see 'boats tied to dock' feeling, check out this town. Nearby Redwoods for camping, and beach combers delight, picture-esq, Brooking offer some real nice vacations...

Florence-If you are a person who loves taking his 4X4 out to the beach, traversing the dunes, or getting way out on less traveled beaches, Florence maybe the place for you...And while Newport has borrowed the feel of Corvallis, and Albany, Florence has all the same amenities without the feel of a larger Oregon city...

Lincoln City- if you like to shop on the coast, Lincoln City is for you....lots of antique stores, lots of restaurants,Nice place for conventions and lots of beaches to walk on....

Tillamook- A dairy community with access to the beach. They have played into this well and have at least one dairy manufacturer who produces the famous "Tillamook cheese" and give outs free samples to prove it's worthy of the reputation of famous....

Seaside-lots of beach access, lots of condos, lots of tourist attractions....

Astoria- a town the protects the mouth of the Columbia and has a sea history...including the sinking of a Japanese sub, the work and life on the sea coast and that long tall bridge that connects to the Washington coasts....

You can go thru all of them in a two day vacation spree without stopping except for food and gas...or take 5 days and learn why some of us insist on living on the Oregon Coast...and maybe YOU might want this life as well....

Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

I've been further north than Tofino. It just gets better!

When visiting San Joseph beach on west Island, north of Tofino, we had to be careful- fresh bear tracks. Hardly anyone up there, either.
