Adventist Syrians report that the Syrian government used to tolerate Adventist Christians - but when Islamic factions began fighting each other - the Muslim government was looking to make as many allies as possible. So when they went to the Christians - they found that the Christian groups in Syria were dead set on the government doing them "the favor" of destroying the Adventist Christian assemblies by accusing them of being spies for Israel - and the proof being that they are Sabbath keepers.

In Syria Pilate was still being manipulated by the unfaithful stewards to do them the "favor" of attacking the people of God.
