At what point does it get too much and just wrong?

Just popping over from the "weird" Christians thread:

Just at what point does Christianity become wrong? Or does it?

Mahatma Ghandi famously said that it was because of Christians that he would not become one himself.

Is it really Christianity that is the problem? Not many people look at the life of Christ and say, THAT'S the last thing I want for the world- mercy, love and justice.

Where does the disconnect between Jesus and His followers happen?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

It's definitely not Christianity that's the problem, but the way some present it.

No, it's Christians who aren't living the life that Jesus led here on earth and/or not following what the Bible says.

Where does the disconnect happen? Good question. Will be interested to see how others answer that.

At what point does Christianity to become wrong?

Very simple,

When it takes in error and entertains, practices the errors in the worship which then is not acceptable to God!

Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him "MUST" worship him in spirit and in truth.

Christianity itself is not wrong but sometimes people are.

All the Christian churches in the world have imbibed error but one and that only one is the one Jesus Christ established upon Himself the Rock and He told us the gates of hell shall not prevail against it!

I agree the gates have not prevailed against it.

Mt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

1Jo 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

If we use the extreme leftist groups such as Talbot's Salon.com and Mother Jones as our guiding light - then Christianity is seeing its last days with bizarre beliefs as presented in those easter-bunny like smear-campaign stories.

Not unlike the dark ages tactics against the Waldenses.

But if we "look at the details" - for world wide evangelism and the effect of the Gospel on the lost -then of course - the model of a Rev 14 3-angels message where the "everlasting Gospel" goes to the entire earth prior to the 2nd coming - is the new expected "norm".

in Christ,

Where does the disconnect between Jesus and His followers happen?

Jesus already said where the disconnect occurs: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” ( Matthew 7:21). The disconnect occurs where people don't feel any commitment to be guided in their daily lives by His teachings while with their lips they claim that Jesus Christ is their Lord.

It is curious that prayer, fasting and pacific resistance is highly consistent with Jesus' teachings of non violence toward one's enemies. However, by rejecting Jesus Christ as his personal savior under the excuse that the Christians he met did not live up to Jesus' teachings, Mahatma Ghandi was only able to get the liberation of his nation (India), from a British subjugation but his contribution to his nation was just limited to that. By rejecting our Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior, Mahatma Ghandi became unable to have any contribution to liberate his people from the bad effects that pagan religious superstitions have in promoting ignorance, poverty and a horrendous social difference between the wealthy and the poor. Jesus' teaching that those who give to the least of His brothers or to the poor are those who please God in the business of everlasting life has an overall benefit to the social welfare of any nation that no pagan superstition or atheist way of thinking could ever match. The best trained and best armed police force could never match the domestic tranquility and the lack of crime generated by society where people believe in praying for their enemies so God could finally bless them with a righteous and holy character and a society where people are willing to turn the other cheek while they wait and trust the action that God is going to take toward their enemies.

Dude, give it a rest. Repetition does *not* lead to conviction, it leads to frustration.

Give us credit for having more memory than gold fish. Say something once and consider it said.

In my view, much of the 'wrongness' with current US Christianity arises from the alliance with the political right. Christians have come to embrace the opposite position from Jesus on almost every issue.

The "Christian right" is not really a Jesus centered Christian way of thinking. Those belonging to the "Christian right" despise the "liberal" way of thinking of our secular society and of the "Christian left." The "Christian right" has one foot based on organized, politically conscious religious people while the other foot they have it where people just believe in their own sense of righteousness and personal means to defend themselves and get ahead. The "Christian left" also has a foot on well organized, politically conscious religious people while the other foot they have it where people believe that government should be the solution for all the problems affecting society. The problem is that when the "Christian right" and the "Christian left" make any "compromise" in order to get with the business of governing the nation, they usually cut out the teachings of Jesus on how a society should be in order to satisfy the wishes of the far right and the desires of the far left while building a secular nation where the ability of reaching a common ground for the benefit of the entire society becomes every day something more and more difficult to accomplish.

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Exactly FF, great post. :like:The two can not go hand in hand. And I'm not talking about the Christian right or left, but the political machine and religion.

The crux of the matter is when error has come in and then the worship is not acceptable as Jesus Himself tells us,

Notice He says "MUST!."

Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him "MUST" worship him in spirit and in truth.

The reason is He will not be in the midst thereof if error is being taught and His Presence in the midst only constitutes Church.

Other wise it is just a social gathering of deceptions.

A bit of error weaved in leavens the whole lump and so is no longer TRUTH!

One Church only stands today that is not weaving in error as He is the Master of it!

Here it is! It hasn't fell into error coming in, He said so!

Mt 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

Thats a pretty big curve. It starts when people start going to strangers doors to "share the good news" and curves up to where people start killing others for not sharing the same beliefs. Conspiracy theories and lies are somewhere north of the first and south of the last.

Christianity is a matter only of following Jesus Christ and His Word.

The lions share of Christianity does not, but follows men and makes men the king over the church.

Christ only is the King of His Church. Men have always wanted and set up kings of their own.

The Church of my king is the choice for me and all His True followers!

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

1Jo 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

it becomes wrong when we rely on anything other then the power of the Holy Spirit to live our lives by.
