bluebelle Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Oh, how adorable! How many do you have in total? Quote
Liz Posted September 14, 2013 Author Posted September 14, 2013 Hi, Bluebelle. I have five in total, three girls and two boys. They are a lot of fun to watch, especially when one learns a new skill, then teaches it to the rest, all day they will practice it. I will tell their story later, after Sabbath. Liz Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Now I have time to tell the story. First a little background. We live in a trailer park just outside the city limits. People are all time dumping their unwanted pets into our neighborhood. We try and re-home them if possible but generally end up taking them to the pound. There is also a large feral cat population out here, they tend to take of themselves and keep the mice and snakes under control so we leave them be. Starting in May we would find a tiny kitten every six weeks, we always had good luck in quickly finding them a new home, but we wondered where they were coming from. They weren't wild, so not from the feral cats, and no neighbors would claim them. Then around the first of August, a very skinny Mama cat shows up. She looked like she had given birth but I couldn't get her to lactate so I thought maybe her kittens had died. I started feeding her and she since she was such a loving kitty, I started advertising her trying to find her a new home. Three weeks later, she is still living under our porch, and no one had even inquired about her. So on a Friday, we made the decision that on the following Sunday we would have to take her to the pound. That Sunday morning she moved her kittens to under our porch!! How she managed to feed all five kittens on next to nothing---miracle. How she knew to move them right then---miracle. We brought the babies inside the house and over the next week we helped her wean them. Again we decided that on the following Sunday she would have to go to the pound, because I didn't want her coming up pregnant again. That Saturday night a couple of ladies called me at 9:30 and asked if she was still available that they would give her a home. Praise the Lord!!! (As Paul Harvey would say) Now the rest of the story. We found out that one of our bad neighbors (we have a restraining order on him for different reasons) had been getting this mama cat pregnant on purpose so that his sons could use the kittens for target practice. All of those tiny kittens we were finding, were the survivors of their litters. God took such good care of this mama cat, through us, even though we couldn't see why no one wanted her at first, it just wasn't time yet, any sooner and the kittens would have died. When the time was right, the perfect home showed up. And so I have complete confidence that the right homes will show up for these babies too.
