Credit Scores Impact New Affordable Care Act Insurance Plans

Many people signing up for health care in Florida through the Affordable Care Act have been shocked when they have to give proof of their credit score before they finish the process.

Anne Packham, one of many people licensed by the state to help people navigate the government's website, said on Tuesday that the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.

"If someone is defaulting on all of their bills they may not want to have them as part of their health plan," said Packham, the lead Navigator in Florida.

Participants with low credit scores could end up paying higher premiums, according to Packham, who said that ultimately the insurance company makes the call.

The government website healthcare.gov has regularly been bogged down, oftentimes showing users a message saying, "We have a lot of visitors on the site."

"We have a mixed bag right now," said Packham, referring to users being able to successfully navigate the site.

I was listening to talk radio the other day and this woman called in to say what Obamacare has done to her. She has been buying health care coverage for her family for $439/month. Her insurance carrier called her up to tell her that her premiums are now going to be $1179/month. On top of that her deductible has gone from $1,000/year to $11,000/year. In short, she can no longer afford her health insurance as her costs have gone up over $18,000/year.

Oh, yes, she can get a refund from the government for part of this, but she doesn't want that. She doesn't want government welfare,(her words) and it's going to be forced down her throat by Obamacare. This is the end result of Obamacare. It isn't saving anyone anything. It's going to take a large chunk of income from everyone, plus it's going to raise everyone's taxes on top of that as the last estimate I heard from the GAO was that the estimated cost of Obamacare has risen to approximately $3 trillion from its original estimate of $900 billion. And the costs associated with it have only started to come in. Expect the costs to go up significantly more if this abortion of a law is fully funded and takes full effect.

So...if my credit score is sub-par...Obamacare treats me differently. That's going to really shake down the poor, who have the lion's share of credit issues.

If my health plan doesn't include all these extra coverage points I neither want nor need...I can't keep it, as the insurance company has to comply with the law as to what they must offer in their plans.

If I like my doctor, but my doctor refuses to see patients with federal agencies attached, or goes out of business due to impossibly high overhead...I can't keep him, can I?
