whbae Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I think I read a statement made by Mrs. White somewhere in her book, but can't retrieve it. Would someone help me? She stated that no non-adventist ministers should preach from our church pulpit on Sabbath. Thanks. Won Quote
Members phkrause Posted October 12, 2013 Members Posted October 12, 2013 You know what Won, I've heard that too. Someone who know's for sure will have to give a reference. olger Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Not familiar with it. I had a Mennonite man speak for the main service in 2004. It was a marriage seminar that he and I were doing together that weekend. It went well, in my opinion. g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
ClubV12 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I've read it, several times, sorry, I never marked down exactly where. It goes beyond just "non-Adventists" preaching from the pulpit. It also includes some serious counsel about the qualifications of ANY person speaking from the pulpit. It is very sacred to speak from the pulpit. A few exceptions for non-Adventists are also counseled. We should not necessarily turn down folks like the Mayor of your town, or other recognized community or national leaders. This is a delicate subject, time and place need to be given serious consideration. Nor should we allow just any Adventist to preach just because they are a member! I'll see if I can find the referrence and get back to ya... On another note: I'm sure many of you have heard the quote about "nothing but the bible should be preached from the pulpit". Often used to denigrate those who use Ellen White quotes in their sermon. My take on that quote is: Nothing but BIBLE TRUTH should be preached. No speculation, no wild imaginings. Use the bible AND the Spirit of Prophecy where it is applicable and worthy of being quoted. Quote
ClubV12 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 You know... I suspect there may not be a specific quote one could nail down on this. BUT, she has much to say about what should be preached and how it should be preached from the pulpit! Along with the qualifications for a Minister. As well as many examples of the error that are being preached in the churches of Babylon. In some cases, even from our own pulpits! From this counsel, which is quite extensive, we have Church Policy regarding the qualifications of those who should be allowed to speak from the pulpit. In an evangelistic campaign, please, literally "the bible and the bible only" from the pulpit! Your talking to people who may have never heard of Ellen White and they should not be expected to give her any more credence than the guy/gal sitting next to them. Quote
whbae Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Club V 12, Regarding no Mrs. White's teaching should be quoted during the sermon is not authentic. Scroll down to "Ellen G White, her life and teachings" and read the First column. You will find the fact. Quote
ClubV12 Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 This is quote that is used, by some, to declare her words should not be used from the pulpit. "The words of the Bible, and the Bible alone, should be heard from the pulpit." Prophets and Kings, pp. 624-626 Certainly true depending on the time and place, like if you were speaking to a Baptist congregation or in an evangelistic campaign. Another way of looking at it is, certainly true ALL the time, under any circumstances! Bible based truth from the pulpit, not the suppositions and false theories of man. Quote
olger Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 Ellen's writing are packed with scripture. I appreciate that. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
