bonnie Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Does The Obama Team Understand The Relationship Between Premiums and Deductibles? Silvio Canto, Jr. Another day and more evidence that the framers of ObamaCare did not really understand what they voted for. Also, you get the feeling that the ObamaCare project was all about politics without regard for any economic considerations, such as the relationship between premiums and deductibles. We are also hearing about "sticker shock" in Oregon and Illinois. This is from a TV report in Oregon: "Some customers of Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of Oregon's largest insurance providers, say that's exactly what's happening. They say they are finding their health care plans are dramatically changing under the Affordable Care Act. "Policy holders are seeing almost double their monthly premiums," said a KATU viewer named Larry in an email. He said his wife's premium will increase by $300 under the Affordable Care Act. Cover Oregon spokesman Michael Cox says most insurance plans that focus on lower premiums and higher deductibles will be replaced by plans with lower deductibles and higher benefits." This is more on deductibles and premium from The Chicago Tribune: "Those who have managed to browse the marketplace have often been hit by sticker shock. Take Adam Weldzius, a nurse practitioner and single father from Carpentersville. He sought the same level of coverage on the exchange as he and his 7-year-old daughter have now, with the same insurer and the same network of doctors and hospitals. At best, Weldzius found, his monthly premium of $233 would more than double. If he chose a plan priced at the same level, the annual deductible would be $12,700, more than three times his current $3,500 deductible." Who read this law? Was the public lied to when we were told that the Affordable Health Care Act would be affordable? Did anyone understand that there is a relationship between deductibles and premiums? In other words, was anyone told that this plan would be more affordable because deductibles would be significantly higher than what most families currently have? Obama Care is starting to smell like a perfect storm of deception and incompetence. bonnie Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Of course it's anything but affordable. Does the government do anything well, or cheap? Guess it depends on who does the math. My brother has adopted two grandsons. Their Dr has informed them that this "Affordable Care" will increase their premiums 50-75% But that is government math. They only acknowledge the few that of course will benefit and ignore and penalize those that have always paid their own way Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Members phkrause Posted October 20, 2013 Members Posted October 20, 2013 My brother has adopted two grandsons. Their Dr has informed them that this "Affordable Care" will increase their premiums 50-75%Not that I don't believe you, but in all the years I've been working and getting insurance, never once has a doctor mentioned anything about insurance going up or down. They usually have nothing to do with that other than what insurance companies they take. From what I remember each year the company would sit us down and tell us that the insurance premiums were going up and that they either are going to change to another one, etc. As far as adopting, we are either going to adopt or become the legal guardians of our grandkids, they have Mass Health and have not had any word of any kind as to if its going up or not. There insurance covers everything. Best insurance I've ever seen. So from our perspective the ACA has been very affordable. When asked how the new law would affect the clinic they use and prefer to stay at this was the response the Dr gave.In addition there would probably be out of necessity some change in their practise. We talked with our own Dr and clinic to understand some of the changes being made and how it would affect us,they also gave us the information they had at their disposal. Are your grandchildren on medicaid at this time? My brother lives in Wyoming and once he officially adopted them he was responsible for their insurance.Prior to their adoption, when they were considered foster children the state paid in full for their care.My brother would not accept payment from social services for their care but had little recourse for insurance for them. bonnie Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 There is no doubt that there are going to be those that benefit from this.Mostly it will be the same that have always benefitted from the labor of others. The DCF had taken them away from my daughter and the father. So yes there insurance is covered by Mass Health. Even if we adopt them they will be covered till age 18 I believe. Did hear that it could be 21. If it wasn't for the State, we could not afford to take care of them, and they would be placed in another home. All I can say is thank the Lord for the what he has given us to help us take care of them.
