Now that you mention it...

My friend, who is a lady, (have to be careful with that whole "girl friend" thing), is on the mission right now! She teaches in the elementary school. I am storing her things and her car in my garage for the year or so she will be gone.

I don't hear from her much, no internet, no phone. Most news in either direction is via a "thumb drive" with doc files to save weight for the airplane. That is the only way to reach the mission. No boats, no cars, only a small plane with large tires. The mission is very remote and deep in the jungles of Guyana.

Here is a link to the Davis Indian Industrial College, volunteers welcome! They serve a much larger area than just Guyana. People come from all around as students and workers.

"DIIC is located about 220 miles from Georgetown (Guyana), the most logical point for supplies. There is no road to DIIC. The river that flows by DIIC is plagued with numerous rapids and waterfalls. It takes weeks under the best circumstances to walk to the nearest road in Guyana. DIIC is truly secluded by jungles, mountains, rivers, savanna, snakes, jaguar, and puma, but not from the word of God."

It is my understanding they are considered an aboriginal religion, which is why the Adventist Church has had lessor problems with th late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

What a miracle.

If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses.

I thought that most Adventists had heard about the Davis Indians. I heard about them when I was a young boy. Nuff Sed

I don't remember now when I first heard about them, but I know it was MANY moons ago. Very fascinating story.

Here is a small snippet of the latest report from Cheyenne, Mission gal in Guyana. Bless her heart, what a trooper!

"A lot of changes here at the school. GAMAS mission plane is still grounded in Georgetown waiting for the day when the new engine and mount will arrive. We are still looking out to the end of November when possibly the plane will be back in service. Right now we are rationing our stored food and we also harvest some fresh greens from the farm from time to time. We are also in the early part of the rainy season. This year it came early and it is proving to be a little challenging, but we are all in good health and have enough to eat."

Among other things in the report, an EARTHQUAKE! Shook her out of bed, things crashing around, very frightening. If the food holds out and the creek don't rise, their gonna be alright. :)

Well the rest of us have to consult history books. :)
