Protesting... us

When I got to church this morning there were protesters with signs outside the church. They were protesting against the Investigative Judgment.

It reminds me of certain posters we use to see on billboards that were done by people of our own denomination...

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I realize there is no humor in this but I just had to smile when I read it. Me thinks they are protesting at the wrong place.

I don't recall seeing the billboards post by our people. How long ago did they do the billboards?

Why would they protest? If they don't believe it then why not just ignore it?

Exactly! They need to get a petition with signatures and take it up with God. But than they'd have to admit that there is a God!!

You don't remember the days when extreme Adventists would erect messages on billboards about the antichrist and 666?

Anyways In this land of the Bible belt I suspect they were some Pentecostals or Dutch or German reform movement.

It was the first time I've seen that but not the first time that I've heard someone say that this area is spiritually dark, with its presence of the occult, evil and Freemasonry. One lady who I know who passes out tracts and Steps to Christ says that once a youth took her tract and burnt it up in front of her eyes.

I had to chuckle Gail, that is an unusual circumstance. Now I've seen some really off the wall stuff around my little Church, but never had the privilege to witness a protest with signs! Wow, I'm impressed. :)

No, somehow I missed the billboard messages. The only billboard messages I can recall had to do with the rapture. Humm Bible Belt, I thought the Bible Belt ran down from the Dakotas. It must encompass a larger area than I thought.

Sounds as though you live in a more active area ... people in my neck of the woods seem to be more interested in who wins the next ball game.

I remember seeing a billboard sign with the "666" and such. It was kinda embarrassing to see it..

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

WOW that is getting really serious to purchase billboard space with 666 on it ... did it have "presented by your SDA friends?" Please say no.

It was about 8 years ago, and was on the highway leading to the Oregon Conference headquarters. I can't rightly remember what all was on the billboard, but I remember I was "rubbernecking" at it as I drove by, and thinking "omigosh!!!"

Sorry but I had to laugh. You should have told them that their wasting their time because a lot of SDA's don't believe in the IJ and the next generation don't even know what it is. Of all the things to protest !!! LOL.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

I bet that non of them have an understanding of the Investigative Judgment. When understood it is one of my favorite doctrines. I'd love to have a debate in person with them!

I'm just wondering where you're getting that information from.

From many members. I have yet to have anyone prove it to me with Bible scriptures. All I have ever been told and such is stuff from EGW. I want someone to explain it in detail and prove it with the scriptures and NO EGW at all.

That's something like "Tell me the story of Jesus but don't include anything the Bible refers to by prophets".

"Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper."

2 Chronicles 20:20 KJV

"He said to him, If they do not hear and listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded and convinced and believe [even] if someone should rise from the dead."Luke 16:31 AMP

"To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”"Acts 10:43 AMP Bracket parenthesis theirs' LHC

It is nothing like your analogy at all. If it only came from EGW then for me it is NOT Biblical at all. I have not yet been shown or proven that EGW was a prophet of any kind. I am not the only SDA member who believes as I do either. In fact, most who are newer to the denomination believe as I do. If you believe it then show me and prove it with the Bible. If you can't then it is an unproven fact and, in my opinion, at least now, not inspired by God at all.

OW, do a study on the sanctuary in the Old Testament. You will certainly see Jesus in there, in at least the slain lamb. Then you will begin to see sanctuary language all through the Bible.

The idea of judgment is not new to the Bible. Many mainstream Christians believe in a judgment after death.

Sadly, too true...

Kevin, this was one of the most wonderful doctrines I've learned. If you ever feel that Jesus is not "for you," as the Bible puts it, this doctrine let you know how much He IS for you!

I like the idea of Jesus making things right. Before coming to Christ, secular people do have a sense of right/wrong and wonder why about evil in the world at times. The judgment is where God's righteousness shows that yes, injustice here on earth DOES deserve action.

"But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.”

Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled."Matt 26:56 NKJV

It's happened before and I see no reason to believe it won't happen again. Though all the world believe a lie, the Truth exist eternally.

“I kept looking

Until thrones were set up,

And the Ancient of Days took His seat;

His vesture was like white snow

And the hair of His head like pure wool.

His throne was ablaze with flames,

Its wheels were a burning fire.

“A river of fire was flowing

And coming out from before Him;

Thousands upon thousands were attending Him,

And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him;

The court sat,

And the books were opened.

Then I kept looking because of the sound of the boastful words which the horn was speaking; I kept looking until the beast was slain, and its body was destroyed and given to the burning fire. As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but an extension of life was granted to them for an appointed period of time.""Daniel 7:9-12 NASB

"Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. "Rev 20:11-13 NASB

Misunderstandings of the Investigative Judgment starts out with a misunderstanding of hell fire. From this there is a misunderstanding of what Judgment is in the Bible. As well as confusion between what the word "Atonement" meant to the Reformers and what the Jewish idea of a Kippur is.

GP: What interesting to me, is we don't want to hear what EGW has to say about the IJ. Yet we would rather someone else explains it from the Bible, when this is what EGW does!!!

I never said explain it at all. I said prove it by scriptures from the Bible. There is a difference.

When it comes to EGW, The denomination puts too much emphasis on her, period, even though at the church I was attending most did not push EGW stuff and I was ever so thankful for that.

The IJ was established by scripture BEFORE Ellen White had any comments on it. It is the FIRST foundational belief of the Adventist Church and biblically supported without need of the Spirit of Prophecy.

Whether you regard Ellen White as inspired or not, she is in fact a noteworthy bible commentator. Few can equal her accomplishments in life (50 books) and her extensive biblical knowledge. As a commentator alone, I have much confidence in her "opinions". Or, you could trust that Baptist Preacher down the road, rumor has it he's a pretty good commentator as well. Perhaps you prefer the local bar tender for your insights? Choose wisely your counselors....
