Is this a threat?

Ron Gladden's, Mission Catylist project is making waves, upseting conference presidents, perplexing members in the SDA community. Is it a threat or will it be a catalyst for change and mission in the SDA church?

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

Hmmmm....

No, I don't see it as a threat. I believe every modality which can be used to spread the true gospel should be welcomed.

I heard Ron Gladden speak at an Adventist Forum meeting, and he's "thinking outside the box." I'm in favor of it. I understand, however, that conference officials whose salaries depend upon all the Adventists bringing all their offerings into the ORGANIZED CONFERENCE, might feel threatened. But Ron Gladden asked to have this type of ministry become a part of the NAD and was told No by Eld. Schneider. So, I say, Let him do this church planting on his own. They already have planted several churches in several large cities, I understand.

His theology is sound. He requires the new members to follow all the Adventist doctrines except for the jewelry and such. Which means many many more people in this world will be able to be a part of the last remnant church.

[What? You think mainline Adventists are the only ones who will be a part of the last remnant church? Well, I don't. I believe Christ's saying "other sheep have I, not of this fold" means just what it says.]

The goal should be to SPREAD THE MESSAGE -- without the hindrance of the top-heavy organizational system which historically has taken up most of our tithe money.

Thanks for clarifying that, Stan. It was needed. Not in this quarter but for the sake of stifling unfounded comments on C/A which some have not the ability to verify.

It is worthy of note that the idea that only positive influence comes from the comments in C/A by posters is like calling the Bible a book of fairy tales.

Lest I be misunderstood, I'm a dyed-in-the-wood Adventist. I believe in our doctrines, and in our lifestyle, and in our organization. Except that the organization is still operating from the viewpoint of the horse-and-buggy era, when interstate travel was slow. Nowadays we really do not need the Union Conferences, IMHO. That just piles on a redundant layer of administration, using up a whole lot of the funds which could otherwise go to pastors in the field.

Maybe that was a Freudian slip...or one of those word errors that actually makes more sense than the word it was supposed to be... <img src="/ubbtreads/images/graemlins/tongue1.gif" alt="" />

I just thought it might have been what they said from the woodlands as opposed to sheep country. grin.gif BTW, JeannieB, I didn't wish you to think that those Scriptures I posted under yours, was meant as a slur against you or anyone else personally. It just seems important for all of us to remember that not every idea posted comes with love for the brethren.

On reflection Ron Gladden's threat is mainly respect to tithe. The golden rule in the SDA church is "don't mess with the women or the tithe"

Since the average member is not really concerned about winning new people Gladden and his people may be welcomed. Who wants to do that weired church planting stuff anyway?
