We never heard about the many, many other complaints of the coffee being too hot, or that it was an elderly passenger in a parked car who was severly burned. I think McDonald's CEO should have plunged his/her hand into a pot of 180-190 degree coffee at the trial to demonstrate how safe that temperature was. A little old lady's skin is no match for nearly boiling water. Leave it to the media to manipulate or omit the facts in order to villianize someone, anyone. Not a coffee drinker myself, but I've often wondered why anyone in their right mind would want to drink hot coffee on a really hot day. If the more nuanced or complicated or technical facts are accurately reported, the written story gets overlooked as too long and complicated to read or understand. And TV media caters to the short attention spans of its viewers. Even this video report was likely viewed only by a small percentage compared to the sound bite sensationalist reports and agenda driven reactionary commentators that too frequently spin, distort and misreport such stories with little regard or interest in truth or accuracy. The sad part is as noted in this report, the public seems to care little about getting the story correct and often the correct version is viewed with skepticism and doubt, since it conflicts with what they first heard or may have wanted to believe. In my lifetime I have personally witnessed the media "coverage" with wonder and amazement a number of incidents, events and cases that I was involved in, or had direct personal knowledge. And now in the internet age it is even worse. There was a time when I felt a burden to correct misinformation, especially for things pertaining to the Church. But I increasingly just let it go since nobody seems to really care. Or worse I am challenged as being the one spreading misinformation. I experience that all too frequently right here and on other forums. Truth takes a beating and most seem to prefer the fiction better. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."
