Sacred vs common

I read a lot, but when I do I find that what I read spurns me off further. Right now in my devotional Bible reading I am at Ezekiel 43. This section is about his vision about the man with the measuring rod who is measuring a temple. Verse 42:20 talks about wall that separates "the holy from the common". There were also rooms where the priests left their ministration clothing from their everyday clothes (42:14) and these clothes were holy. The offerings that were eaten by the priests were most holy (v13)

I wondered why there is this difference between the holy and the common, and is that something we have today. If we don't, should we?

I'm not sure if this is the sort of thing you are referring to or not, but... When I was growing up I had Sabbath clothes and regular clothes. One time laundry didn't get all done for whatever reason, and all I had was a Sabbath blouse, and thinking "Oh no, I can't wear that! It's for church".

Now as an adult I just have clothes, no special designation. But I do wish I had the space and money for "Sabbath clothes". I see that typed out now, and wonder if that is a little weird?

I don't think that's weird at all. I kinda like to see people dressed in their best to go to church. It's a bit of an "honoring God as special" type of thing. Pioneers most certainly wore their best "Sunday-go-to-meetin'" clothes for church.

Something else that comes to mind as being sacred is the unleavened bread used for communion. The leftover part that wasn't eaten is supposed to be burned. There would be no reason to do that unless there was some sort of "sacredness" attributed to it...

I find that the sacred thangs that I have are made sacred by God. I reckon that's good.

when you clean your space you make it sacred to you. Not divinely sacred, but you have made it purposeful to your use.

as when God makes something sacred he cleanses it for his special purpose and sanctifies it for his use.

so the non religious person may have a sense of something consecrated set apart, or cleaned and made sacred to them.

God's presence makes what he touches sacred, as in the Sabbath hours, and living in our bodies making them a temple or habitation for God's Spirit, it becomes a sacred place to God.

Places and times of prayer and worship, a special promise "where two or more are gathered i am there present."

Excellent! This gives me something to chew on for a bit.

When I respect that God makes something sacred, does that help me spiritually? Perhaps in the sense that the two minds are brought into fellowship on the subject. That in itself would have some value in the relationship, just as one family member having respect to something that another considers precious.

It is one thing to look at what God considers sacred as having been done arbitrarily. In a sense that makes it a rule. It is another thing to "have the mind of Christ," so to speak, to seek fellowship with God on things that are precious to Him.

Where our treasure is - there our heart will be also. We must value that which God values, and despise that which He despises.

In my childhood we changed clothes before sundown on Friday and wore our Sabbath clothes all day Sabbath until sundown, regardless of what we were doing. I knew several other families who did that.

Now it seems common to wear the Sabbath clothes for church only. As soon as you get home you wear clothes for nature walks or outdoor activities.

Interesting Johann, I have to smile at the thought of children keeping their Sabbath clothes clean and neat. We had our Sabbath clothes but only wore them for church and upon returning home changed into regular clothes.

I still try to keep my Sabbath clothes separate from everyday clothes. I don't know that I feel it makes the Sabbath clothes sacred, but it makes me feel good on Sabbath morning.
