Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 3, 2014 Members Posted January 3, 2014 :( That's so sad. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Administrators Gail Posted January 4, 2014 Administrators Posted January 4, 2014 You just never know how your mission effort will end up. I pray that his family be comforted at this time of sorrow Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 4, 2014 Administrators Posted January 4, 2014 This is a sad story and strikes a chord since I have been to Belize 4 times and in that same area. It is generally a fairly safe and stable country, but the proximity to the border is a potential source of bad elements of Guatemala coming over. That is all familiar territory in Belize where he lived and was working. Our Youth group worked for a half dozen years in that area around San Ignacio which is just northeast of the border town mentioned in the article. I think I have been through there. I think we may have also worked in a village near Valley of Peace that is also mentioned as where he had worked. The border with Guatemala is quite porous and only vaguely marked and most of it unguarded. Major roads would have a check point, but that is about it. We wandered over into Guatemala several times, but can't say I was officially in the country since I have no passport stamp to prove it. I do have a picture of us over the foot bridge across the river near Arenal well into Guatemala. That little village straddles the border with a soccer field in the middle. One goal is in Belize, the other is in Guatemala! (You can see the bridge and the field on Google Maps.) Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
