Yep, I think this gang of thieves spammed a bunch of folk on here before we shut off access.

This sort of scam has been going on for so long that you would think everyone would be onto them by now. But the very fact they continue suggests there are still suckers taking the bait.

The hope of quick easy money triggers a weird greed circuit in some people's brains. When the greed circuits are firing, all rational function of the brain seems to be short-circuited. In short, greed makes you stupid.

I would have answered it differently than I did but it came identified with a disclaimer, "I am a scammer".

It must be 15 years or more since I first received a letter like that. I talked to the police and was asked to try to get all the information possible without committing myself or giving important information.

The party wanted to get information about my bank account so they could deposit the money there, but I first had to pay a considerable amount in transport fees. I received then considerable email requesting I hurry up before they would have to transfer the money to someone else. . .

That is why this type of fraud is known as advance fee fraud. They just keep asking for more money to be advanced to cover a never ending list of "fees" until the victim finally catches on or runs out of money.

It is a dangerous game to play with them. Most of these crooks are far away, but some do operate with a network that includes people in the country near the victim. What is most dangerous is for a victim to try to go after them to get their money. People have been killed trying.
