John Tesh and Connie Sellecca: A Godly Marriage in Hollywood

</font><blockquote><font class="small">Quote:</font><hr />

John and Connie call it "doing the work ahead of time." They credit the health and longevity of their marriage to a series of premarital counseling sessions with their pastor. John discovered premarital counseling was a place where they could be completely honest with each other about tough issues.

Would anyone mind if I started keeping track of how many of Shane-originated posts focus on sex?

Christine, just attribute it to his youth, and therefore high testosterone levels. Age, and harmone reductions will moderate him.

I am reminded of a comment in a SDA magazine regarding a well-known, international figure, who claimed to have not engaged in sex prior to marriage. The SDA comment made some very positive statements. However, it did not comment further as with the passage of time the news reported the extra-marital sex of this person.

Sometimes we do not know the whole story: "I did not have sex with that woman." The comment of an important political figure.

Noah and his wife Agnes also were good folks.

Chirstine, on a more serious response to your post, which I do take seriously:

I do not see Shane's posts centered in sex. Rather, I see them centered in that which will generate the most responses. I could see them as centered in the scandalous if you understand it from the defination of shocking. Shane appears to me to want to shock people into posting responses. Let us face it, sex sells. Thus, sex is a part of the posts that Shane makes, but only a part of them.

People (I am now being general and not specific.) who want to shock often relate the sins of others. Thus, we are familiar with man who goes to Prayer Meeting and in public prayer recites the sins that he has committed, and asks God to forgive him. The Christian who is more mature than that, may accomplish the same by reporting, and discussing, the sins that someone did not committ: Thank you Lord for X who remained strong against the sedduction of that wild woman. In either case, the shock value remains the same. As shock sells people discuss it.

A post that tells us that two people did not engage in sex prior to marriage is an invitation to discuss it. People who are turned on by such subjects will come on board and ask the logical questions: Did they kiss? Oh. What kind of a kiss? Did they touch? I am not going to go any further. While I doubt that people here in CA would ask such, such posts invite such consideration, even if not publicly posted.

Perhaps a post that would not invite such focus might be:

John and Nancy, well-known Hollywood stars publicly affirmed their committment to Christian values in their life. Speaking before an audience of youth they stated that they review scripts for conformity to those Christian values. In terms of thier marriage, they acknowledge that it is not always easy. But, they are committed to each other, and they are determined to work out any differences that may arise. For they consider their committment to be forever.

That is great Shane! Glad to know there are some people who are not embarassed to admitt that while living in Hollywood.

There are a lot of Christians in the entertainment industry. They probably don't feel the need to broadcast their religious practices to everyone, nor do they apparently have the need to let the entire world know what they do behind closed doors! I certainly don't need to know it!

Margaret Gray responds:

Mrs. Gray knows a number of married Christian couples, none of whom have announced what they did prior to being married. Is it anybody else's business? No.

Agreed it is no body's business..but it is nice to know that there are entertainers with morals still in this world. But their lives are their lives and should be kept private unless they choose to share.

Some Adventist friends who experienced divorce have confided to me that because they had sex before marriage, they felt obligated to get married, and wound up marrying someone they were not really well suited for. This seems to be a mindset that particularly affects conservative Christians like SDAs.

Thank you for your defense, Brother Matthews. My posts are not designed to shock anyone or seek out the gutter. I seek to make posts that stimulate discussion. The posts I make here are mostly just links to other sites that are already out in the public so they shouldn't be breaking news. This one came from Focus On The Family's website. But enough of that, I don't want to make myself the topic of this thread.

I have been and am a strong critic of Hollywood. However I feel the need to be fair. If I am going to post anti-Hollywood stories I also need to post those that are positive too.

Pre-maritial sex has caused much heartache. Jaci Velasquez is another entertainer that has gone public about not having pre-maritial sex because she wants to be a positive role model for young latin girls. But this story isn't just about pre-maritial sex. It is about letting your light shine. Here we have a Hollywood couple who isn't afriad to shout about the Lord from the mountain top.

I agree Shane and I don't think your post was inappropriate.
