Administrators Gail Posted October 25, 2005 Administrators Posted October 25, 2005 How does one that is out feel part of the family? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Bravus Posted October 25, 2005 Moderators Posted October 25, 2005 I could wander off and start babbling, but a little more info might be useful: family family, church family or CA family? 'out' geographically, fashionably or socially? or 'out' of the closet? actions on the part of the one who is out, or on the part of the family, or both? Sorry Quote Truth is important
Administrators Gail Posted October 25, 2005 Author Administrators Posted October 25, 2005 Exactly There are many ways that this concept can be applied, but basically the feeling is the same Before I specified anything, I wanted to see if just the idea struck a chord with anyone Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted October 26, 2005 Author Administrators Posted October 26, 2005 As I drive to work each morning, I pass by a community services building which houses a homeless person under its sundeck I wonder to myself, does this person feel like part of the human race? If not, how does he get there? Working on the Singles committee for the conference, I have opportunity to visit a few congregations. Usually these congregations have a handful of single members and many more happy families. Do singles feel part of the church? With 48% or whatever it is (almost half) of the adult general public being single, I wonder, Where are they in the church? The ratio in our congregations don't match the general population and the stories I hear from the singles we do see help tell me why How about minority groups? How about socially shy people or disabled? Introverted? It struck me that there might be a lot more folks out there who don't feel part of any family, least of all the family of God Thoughts? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted October 27, 2005 Author Administrators Posted October 27, 2005 I think it's basically a question of acceptance In my workplace I say that an item has only as much worth as someone is willing to pay for it Is it like that with people? As Christians, I mean it shouldn't be, but in practise is that how it works? Is a person only as valuable as the worth that others are willing to place on him/her? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

I do believe that to an exent that a person is only as valuable as the worth others are willing to place on them. In different settings, professional or social, the greater or lesser extent can vary but is still evident. Naomi Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
