Samie Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Was that evening part of the first day of the week? Why? Please support your position with Scriptures, if any. Quote: KJV John 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. NAS John 20:19 When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for (a)fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, 1b)"Peace be with you." NIV John 20:19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" NKJ John 20:19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." NRS John 20:19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." Samie Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 SAMIE if GOD created the day and night from evening to evening then this makes sense dgrimm60 So, relative to the OP, are you saying, "Yes, the evening referred to in John 20:19 is part of the first day of the week", or are you saying something else? Thanks, brother. In Christ, Samie Quote
Windsor Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Some translations instead use the word "late" rather than evening which makes more sense since if evening had actually arrived, it would now be the second day of the week. So what exactly is your agenda here? I know this wasn't an innocent question. Quote Remember Adventists Online?
Windsor Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Good thing I didn't learn from Rabbinic tradition. I went to Genesis where it says evening and the morning were the first day, not morning and evening. Quote Remember Adventists Online?

So what exactly is your agenda here? I know this wasn't an innocent question. Thanks, Windsor. Are you saying that the KJV translation "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week" should have been translated "Then late that same day, being the first day of the week"? If so, how are you going to harmonize your position with this scenario: The Greek word translated "evening" is the same word used in Mark 14:17 where it describes the time period when Christ ate Passover with His disciples. You are much aware that Passover is to be eaten during the night, not before sunset, as would be the case if "late" is the better translation and as you said "makes more sense" than "evening". Would you please explain? In Christ, Samie Quote
Samie Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 genesis7, No natural born Jew will agree to your proposition to begin the day at sunrise. They had been accustomed to a sunset to sunset reckoning since the time of the first Jew on earth. And contrary to your claim, the Bible is clear that the first day of creation begins with Gen 1:1 not Gen 1:3. The Sabbath command also disallows your proposition. The LORD Himself said that the 7th day is the Sabbath and that the Sabbath is to be observed from sunset to sunset. Agreeing to your proposition is expressly going against God's command to observe the Sabbath from sunset to sunset because your 7th day Sabbath is from sunrise to sunrise. Do you wnat us to DISOBEY the LORD by agreeing to your proposition, brother? In Christ, Samie Quote

Samie Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 genesis7, Nothing in what you have posted proves your sunrise to sunrise concoction. A brotherly advice: Do not just parade verses; show how those verses prove your contention. Because those verses don't disprove the Biblical sunset to sunset reckoning, which you seem to not be aware of. As to God's command on sunset to sunset observance, don't pretend you don't know. You will just be adding insult to injury to your own position. In Christ, Samie Quote
Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 19, 2014 Members Posted January 19, 2014 ..the “evening” belongs to the day which follows on the First Day, the Second Day “being evening”—which is the Second Day’s beginning and not the First Day’s ending.. well, I fry *mine* in butter...
