Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 21, 2014 Members Posted January 21, 2014 It would be interesting to see the numbers for who was "caught" vs who was "caught and arrested".... I'd venture to say that there are significant numbers of white folks getting caught, but for whatever reason (could be money, influence or something else), they aren't arrested. And that in an identical situation, a black person would be summarily arrested and taken to jail. I wish non-black people would start revising their "lazy, worthless, shiftless, good-fer-nuthin'" image of African Americans (not saying everyone thinks that way, but a considerable number do, if they are honest about it). And stop thinking that their token black friends are just an example of "the good ones." I guess this is my contribution to Martin Luther King Day... I got a whole new perspective on the "race relations" issue when I found my African American relatives back on the plantations in the early 1800's... It is the application of those laws that is done with open eyes. There is no doubt that biases are a part of the application......and money! Quote

This understanding was based on what I learned and heard from the experiences of others. These charts don't surprise me at all. Yes, a lot of people knew it all long and now we have the data. There are similar studies about discipline in schools, credit applications, etc. Proof that these actions and attitudes are institutional. He was telling my dad one day about what happened to his two sons' school experience after he had moved to a different part of Portland. His sons (who were both "A" students) had been placed in remedial English classes without ever being tested. Pretty obvious what had happened. Dr. Jones went down to the school to see about the matter, and the registrar of that new school was summarily fired...
