Stan Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 According to CNN-- President Bush "reluctantly" accepts Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers's request to withdraw her nomination. Ron Lambert Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Now President Bush can nominate anyone he wants, and it does not have to be a woman. If he nominates a man, and people object that he did not replace a woman with a woman, he can say, "I nominated a woman, but you shot her down." Quote
Moderators lazarus Posted October 27, 2005 Moderators Posted October 27, 2005 My guess is that the Bush admin had to cut their losses. The word on the Hill was that staffers on Monday were asking about the best way for her to withdraw. We must also see that the new nominee can be a way for the Administraion to sieze the initiative again after the inditments tomorrow. Its said that Bush will go for a "Borklike" figure who will ignite a ferocious battle over confirmation. A few days after the indictments Bush will annouce his hard right choice and rally his base and try to move on from the Rove/Libby resignations. "Politricks" is a bit like chess, you gotta plan several moves ahead. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted October 28, 2005 Moderators Posted October 28, 2005 "to move from the Rove/Libby resignations." You're almost a prophet, lazarus! At least as of this moment, Rove hasn't resigned - though some feel he should. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
