Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted January 29, 2014 Moderators Posted January 29, 2014 Recently our son moved out of our home to another State where he had accepted a job. He moved his stuff to his new home in a manner that was new to us and saved him quite a bit of money. I thought that I would tell the story of this move so that others might be able to save money also. Christopher discovered a way to move his stuff to Iowa at a low cost that I find interesting. He contracted with a big name national trucking company to transport his stuff from here to his home in Iowa. They provided the transportation and nothing more. They parked a 28 foot empty trailer in our driveway and left it. Their charge to Christopher was for the use of the first six feet of the trailer. It was his responsibility at that point to load his stuff in the first six feet. He hired a local moving company to send their people out to prepare and load the trailer. So, they came here and wrapped furniture and loaded his stuff from floor to top in those six feet. Then they put in place a floor to top bulkhead which protected his stuff from view and from movement. It was sealed in place so that Christopher would know that no one had messed with his stuff. Then the trucking company came back, hooked the trailer up to a tractor and drove off. Their contract was to deliver to his home in Iowa two days later. There they will do the same as they did here. They will park the trailer at his Iowa location and it will be Christopher’s obligation to unload it and to move his stuff into his home. All in all, he has saved hundreds of dollars over what it would have cost him to move his stuff by another means. I had never heard of such a move. Quote Gregory
Administrators Naomi Posted January 29, 2014 Administrators Posted January 29, 2014 What a great way to move and save money. I have heard that this was possible but have never known someone who actually used a trucking company in this way. Thank you for sharing Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
