It's not always easy to know which ones to step out of your way to help, especially when your own funds are limited and you've already helped a few others with reasonable amounts a short time earlier. We (wife and self) on the way to worship services the other day, stopped and asked what we might do to help an obviously needful person. They needed a lift in the opposite direction we were heading so we invited them to attend worship services with us after which there would be a visitors meal served by the church and then we would be able to give them transportation to their original destination. The individual was definitely blessed by an experience with the Holy Spirit and continues contact with others. Other than a small glitch, there were many who shared in giving help, only one being able to offer continuing help. "And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand?"Exodus 4:2 KJV A principle each person can ask for themselves. "...but now you also must complete the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to desire it, so there also may be a completion out of what you have. For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have. Liz Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I would suggest that everyone support their local homeless shelter. Most do a whole lot more than simply feed and offer a temporary shelter for the night. Once we got involved with ours it really opened my eyes. JoeMo Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I hate it when people make me cry. You did it, Pam - in a good way. Thinks I have learned from the homeless: 1. Some of them - even the chronic homeless - are not so different than you and I. 2. Some people choose to be homeless - they like the adventure and the life style. 3. Having been unemployed (long-term) a couple of times, I can only say "therefore by the grace of God go I". I have been within one month away from my home being repossessed twice in the past 15 years; so I understand what it feels like to be imminently "homeless". If you haven't been there, it's frickin" scary (especially when you have several children). Like Liz said, if you've never ministered to the homeless, give it a shot. It will bless both them and you.
