ANY biblical or SOP evidence he was crucified on a hill?

From what I have read I gather that Calvary was actually near a road so that people going by would pass the crosses and see the crucifixion. The sign on the top of the cross told everyone what crime the criminal was being punished for. Jesus' was, The King of the Jews, which I find fascinating. The Jews said to Pilate that they had no king but Caesar.

It is poetic language which is not literal.

"Hill" could be a hill of memory or knowledge.

"Far away" - the poet is far away from Jerusalem.

"Old" - 2000 years ago, as if the cross is still there

"rugged" - rugged by sin?

The cross may or may not have been old & rugged.

However, I think it may be assumed to be both old and rugged today, if I can be recovered. So in that sense it may be called an old rugged cross.

The only thing is that the inner veil would have inside the building. The doors would have had to been open to actually see the veil but the people would have been able to hear the rip. I do believe that the veil was thick and sturdy

This weekend someone sent me an article from the web that carries the theory that Golgotha was actually in the vacinity of the Mount of Olives. I will try to get that link...

If that is so, then those watching the crucifixion would have been able to look into the open door of the temple, as they faced east.

But we get to look within the Most Holy of Holies today, by faith. To me that is even more awesome. We don't get to look within the earthly model, but rather within the heavenly reality.
